News SSR info....

Just went to Tirerack this weekend and one of the salesman there told me that they just had a presentation on the new SSR wheels that will be available this spring. He stated that manufacturing has begun. I asked about the Competitions and he said that several colors will be available but the polished lip will no longer be offered!!??? I personally like the polished lip.

Luke, can you verify this to be true?? Please say no.

Well that does suck.

I picked up a used set of SSR Competitions (17x8.5 5x114.3, +48, anthracite) in perfect condition a couple of months ago, and I'm waiting for the spring to put them on with some 255-40-17 tires. I sure would like to know that there will be replacements available if SSRs come back to the market.

If not, I guess I should consider myself lucky just to get them. Haven't seen a lot of 17x8.5 in the 5x114.3 bolt pattern.

ah, I see now (found your thread). If you still have the front lip and want to ship it and the wheels I might be interested in a "package deal" ... only thing is I don't think those tires are "legal" for the autocrossing I do... hmmmm (edit) I also think I could be ok with that.... give those R-classes a run for their money.

Luke,

If you have connections, ask SSR if they're making a 5x110 50 offset 18x8 for the Solstice.

hot damn... my wheel choices just got thrown out the window. Luke, as soon as you have details on what will be available in 17" 5x100 for a 2005 WRX sedan, I want to know.

I'm also assuming the weight of the Competition will remain the same i.e. manufacturing techniques will be the same if not similar to the original. The light weight is a big plus for me. Luke, any info on specs?

I'm actually considering doing aircraft stripper to get the polished lip look.

...if ya don't know exactly what you are doing, you may end up with scrap aluminum.

Professional wheel refinishing is available....and I'd do that before I destroyed a set of nice wheels.

This looks like the new site: Tanabe SSR. I'm all over a set of TypeC 17" gun metalic wheels.

Luke, pricing, availability, etc?

http://www.rd-tanabe.com/ssr/collect...pec/17inch.htm

that lists the weights of the SSR type-c wheels. I think you can get the weights on any other size/type.

im liking the 17x9" gunmetalic type-c's weighing in at a meer 15.2lbs each

and I say yay for no more polished lip. keeps everything much more clean looking.

Glad the weight won't be an issue. But there should be an option of going polished lip or not.

I'm with you on that... I don't like polished lips at all, and wouldn't buy the wheel because of it. Now the clean bronze or gun metalic in the 17" size is the perfect wheel, as far as I'm concerned.

No word yet on pricing and availability from Tirerack... any other sources with those details?

This is a sad day for me to find this out...
I've been looking for these wheels used, hoping I wouldn't have to pay premium price for them, looks like now they won't be available either way...

Bummer...
