Post 2004 GT

I was speaking to a dealer today and he said that he heard rumors that the 2004 GT to be released in 2003 will have a turbo 2.5. He thinks the goal is 268 hp. Has anyone else heard about this or is he just blowing smoke. I need to know if he's for real, if I wanted smoke blown up my ass I'd just stay at home with a pack of smokes and a short length of hose!

Hey Kevin,

Which dealer did you go to? That sounds a little far fetched, but hopefully he's right.

That's when my lease is up for my car. I wouldn't mind extra horses in a Legacy GT.

There is a Subaru event at SOC this weekend. You may want to register. This is open to all Toronto-Subaru-Club members.

This event is basically a market survey regarding the WRX STI. This session with SOC might be a good opportunity to ask....

Hope this helps.
www.toronto-subaru-club.com

Here's the content of their request...

Just like the title says, SOC want's our opinion on some matters on branding, STI, etc. They'll also go into the tech behind the new engine and different trannies, as well as the tumble generator valve and whatnot.

We need about 20-30 people and the thing is this SATURDAY MORNING at Subaru of Canada Headquarters in Mississauga.

In a Dr. Evil voice..."rrrrright". I think that your dealer needs a UA. Drug test. They would be cracked to try and get that much HP out of the ol 2.5 with factory reliability and a 60,000 mile warrenty. IMHO it wont happen. We may see an up horse powered H6, they could easily squeeze 230+ hp from that engine and not worry about all of the things that can go wrong with an engine not designed around a turbo from the get-go.

Or they could just be a great car company and give us the stinkin' 2.0L twin turbo already. It might take a little work as far as plumbing is concerned, but that's what engineers are for. Give it to us already!

I have heard that the new H6 is considered somewhat of a failure by some subaru execs. The high price tag and less-than-zippy (tall gearing) has really kept it from selling as well as the cheaper 4cyl models. At that price range they are competing with audi and when most people think of subaru they do not think of the quality that audi is known for.

A legacy 2.2 or 2.5 turbo model seems to make alot of sense.

too bad they don't do a limited edition run of monster legacy gt twin turbos. something to compete with the s4 performance-wise. they won't sell that many, but it'll improve subaru's image as a "sporty" car company.

Thanks for the heads up but I saw the post for the meeting at SOC this weekend and I would go if I were not going to Mosport to see the Speedvision and Trams Am races.

Secondly a 2.0L engine is good for 130 hp NA, turbo charged it's good for 227 hp reliably by Subaru. A 2.5L engine is good for 165 hp, with a turbo 265 hp should be safe and easy with a bunch of factory engineers writing the engine management programming. Remember Shiv has a 2.5L that he has put serious miles on producing around 300 hp.

Cool

I heard from my dealer that next years GT might have the 2.0 Turbo and the Outback Sedan will have the H6. Take it for what its worth

I don't understand why some people say that Subaru would be crazy to try and get over 250 horses out of the EJ25 reliably. This could be accomplished so easily.

For one they have already done a supercharger application to the EJ25 in the STX concept vehicle. I'm sure this setup produces near the 250 horsepower mark with butt loads of torque from the start.

Secondly If they can make and mass produce a EJ20 that makes over 270 horses why couldn't they easily change a few things and make an EJ25 that comes off the shelf with 300 horsepower. All they would have to do to make the engine more sturdy is use a semi-closed deck, use forged crank, pistons and rods, play around with valve porting and strengthening, lower the compression to 8.5:1 and they would be set. The WRX STI are running like 14 to 17 psi and hold up. Immagine a strong EJ25 running 12psi. Thats 300 horsepower easily.

The best way to make this happen is to bug Subaru of America and telling them exactly what we want. You can contact them by going to www.subaru.com. Click the Contact Us tab and use the Subject drop down menu and selct product reccomendations. We may not get exactly what we want probably just their rendition of a hopped up Legacy. Considering the B4, I will take their rendition.

Any way you look at it, it will get here faster if we let them know what we want and keep bugging them.

Thanks
Brad
