Question Can I run 17's on my 95 L?

Stock Size on the car is 165/80R13

Just curious if it was possible to run 215/45-17?

From what I understand the Strut could get in the way? Is it just a Stock Subaru Strut issue or a car issue?

Try using TireRack's tire calculator. I'm going to guess by ding the math in my head that you'd need to run 40 series tires, and could get away with 205s, but 225s are really wide, even for a WRX. You're likely rub against the fender lip, if not the strut also. But the calculator will help you better. I'd give you the link, but I'm on my phone and don't have it available right now.

Maybe a good post but this sentence kills your credibility for me

I'm in a wagon, and 225 is the limit.

i run 215/45/17 with ease on my 95 and 96. just understand by moving up to a 17" rim, u will decrease ur ability accelerate. i would recomend 16" wheels and good tyres for overall ride comfort.

IIRC, u have a FWD L and no BBK, so there is no need beyond aesthetics to the 17" wheel.

a turbo should help out in the regard

Maybe I can find a deal here with wrx wheels and tires, I know without the turbo yet it's going to be SLOWER getting on highways but i'm sure the ride will be better with wider tires, I hate the feeling on the stocks, I can just feel the tire rolling on the sidewall, in some cases for like hot summers not geat.

The Wrx is 215/45/17 right?

i think 02-05 WRX stockers are an excellent idea. inexpensive, durable, and easy to replace.oem tyre size is 205-55-16, and if ur lucky enough to find a bare set, u can fit a set of 215-55 tyres of ur chosing to them.

yes, the MY06 WRX has 17" wheels standard. these would not be my recomendation for ur situation.

What offset?
One of the locals has a 97 2.5l Brighton AWD and wants to put some 17" Rotas on it.

my 225 are on the stock RS wheels so they are 53 offset? not exactly sure but its the low 50s. i know kostamojen runs 225s on his rota torques, 48 offset.

I wonder if he has any other mods to help them fit.

I've seen a 99 RS rub in the rear with Rota (+48) and 215 S-03s. I know those tires are wider than some.

I've got RS struts, WRX springs, which I think make it sit slightly higher than the WRX. Therefore, I might be able to run those 225's I was looking at. However, the ONLY way to tell for sure, as there are soooo many variables, is by test fitting them. I'll report back next weekend.

ive got the saem problem, i want 17's for my 97 impreza L, but the only ones that will fit are the 17X7 not 17X7.5, because of the strut. should i just go with 16's just to be careful?

17 x 7.5's fit great on an L. I have been running mine with stock struts for almost 3 years now. With a 215-45R17 they won't rub anywhere, not sure about a 225 yet.

yea i heard they fit, but if i want to lower it, which i do, i heard that the strut will rub. just wanted another opinion. and do the 17's look to big on an L if u dont have a bodykit or anything, just lowered.

The offset is what causes the strut rubbing. Fender rubbing is a result of tire size, and not wheel size.

My L is lowered about 1.5 in the front and 1.25 in the rear with 17 x 7.5's. No rubbing anywhere with room to spare between the strut and the tire. I'm even looking at wider tires for next year. I might need to roll the rear fenders though.

For everyone saying wheel X and tire Y fit and don't rub, please list the offset of the wheel. It makes all the difference about rubbing the strut or fender.
