Question questions on WRX engine upgrades

I'm considering moving from my 320-hp lightly modified Audi S4 to a new WRX, but when I test drove the WRX it just wasn't fast enough for me. I know I'd need to get coil-overs and other nice stuff, but what I'm really concerned about is horsepower and torque.

What reasonable mods would I need, and how much would it cost to make a WRX hit 60 in the low-5's and run the quarter close to 13? (I'm guessing around 275 hp). I don't think I can wait for the STi.

Thanks

$2600 approx. for Cobb Tuning Stage 1, 280hp should get you into that performance ballpark, or better.

[edit] Here's a quote for you:
"Cobb Tuning offers a 280hp kit for $2600. This one is a lot more expensive, but you get from 0-60 in 4.8 and run the 1/4 in 13.4. Not too shabby. You get a turbo back exhaust, Unichip ECU, IC spray, CAI, and some other stuff I can't remember. "

Should be more than enough performance for you for your stated goals.

Even Cobb's stage II kit ($5000 AFAIR) will get you up to 320HP- still quite a bt less than the Audi. Why the change, by the way?

I would get over horsepower as an absolute number, first of all. It's like weight...some people fixate on what the scale says, other go by what they look and feel like.

Heck, the WRX is already a mid to upper 5-second 0-60 car. It doesn't take much to get it that little bit more. Drop $1K (as I recall) for the TurboXS kit, and you get a K&N, Unichip and muffler that should get you the magic numbers you crave.

Mind you, you won't be making manly horsepower numbers, but the driveability will improve, and the car will be noticeably faster. There are guys running low 13s with this kit, and the stock turbo.

You can get a TON of horsepower out of the WRX, but you have to think in terms of reliability/streetability/driveability, IMHO. It might also be worth your while to wait for the STi, as long as you already have a good car. More horsepower, 6-speed gearbox, VVT motor, 4-pot Brembo brakes...all the goodies.
