Default Immobilizer input needed.

I'm working on gutting the legacy for my swap and want input on the immobilizer. Do I need the actual ignition? or just all the wiring around it?
How do I remove the ignition from the steering column?

Joshua

i have given some thought to this

do you have the key that is married to the ecu
i suspect that you could super glue the imobilizer key to the rfid reciever and use what ever ignition

That wont work, or shouldn't work in theory. The system was designed to have the key in the ignition in order for the immobilizer to work.

You have to break the bracket to remove the ignition dealie.

Okay if I have to break the bracket then how do I put it in the next car? I have yet to tear apart my car to see how the one it would be replacing is held on. I'm wondering if my bolt out kit might work and then I can just replace them with conventional bolts. I'll have to give it a shot.

Could you just swap the steering column?

I'm assuming you are using the 05 crossmember and rack?

EDIT: I just read the other thread about the issues with the crossmember and rack. If the crossmember and rack are a no go, my idea is kinda busted. I just brought it up b/c I wanted to go STi rack and had to consider getting the STi column to save the u-joint fab you could always use the column and fab the u-joint to use the older style rack.

You remove the bolts if you want to use the ignition switch in the next car. If you break the bracket where it surrounds the bolts you can do it this way. Or I suppose you can try to cut the heads off the bolts and use a stud remover to get them out. All new gen subarus are setup this way to help prevent theft. You tighten the bolts down until the head snaps so you can't remove the ignition switch and free the steering lock.

He could just use an 05+ crossmember to use the LGT rack.
