Default Musty/mildew smell from GT LTD sunroof

My wife's '01 GT LTD has a musty smell coming from her sunroof when she opens it. After it opens the smell goes away. I can't smell where it's coming from after the sunroof is already open.

Anyone else had this?

Question not sure

maybe she either has a slow leak and it is mildew or maybe a small rodent or bird snuck in when the car was sitting in a parking lot? Good luck. The only problem I have with my sun roof is that when I open it all the way the sliding sun shield gets stuck.

Default just take the shield off

I don't know about you, but I hate the way the shield looks. I had no problems with it other then the fact it looked ugly.
It took me more then a year to take it off because the dealer told me it was drilled into the roof. So I left it on..........dumb move.
So one day I just tooled around with it and took it off.........NO HOLES. I've never even thought about putting it back on. It looks so much better IMO.

Default no smell

Sorry, I never answered your question.
I've never had a smell coming from the sunroof.........maybe there is something dead up there.......like a mouse.
I've seen them get in heater vents and it STINKS

Default Stinky?

Maybe the drains are clogged, causing the water in them to sour and STINK!

Drains?

As for the mouse theory: I kinda doubt that. It's more like the smell of your laundry when you leave it in the washing machine for a few days without drying it.

Yes, drains. Where do you think any H2O getting into the well below the glass goes? The drains can get clogged with various "junk" ie pine needles, pollen, etc. TT your dealer.

Geez...now I feel stupid. I never even thought of having drains in a sunroof or where the water was supposed to go. I'll bet that's what it is.

thanks nuburu2

Yeah, at least I'm not getting wet yet.

Now I just need to figure out where the drains exit. Any ideas?
