Default will 93 legacy 5spd ecu work on 95 impreza after swapping 5spd into impreza?

I found a 5spd 93 legacy awd and wondered if I would have to take my ecu (my car is automatic fwd) and change it to the legacy 5spd ecu? I would like to make sure I don't fry the ecu and keep cruise control stuff as well. Are the pinouts the same?

Well I read on some dude's awd swap writeup that he had to put in a standard ecu and remove the auto one. Then there were so many wires he had to cut and splice and rig relays and stuff. The legacy ecu wouldn't work anyway, I checked it today and it's actually a 95, they had the car marked incorrectly. It was an obd2 ecu anyway, I can't use, different plug. My 96 impreza donor car is also obd2, so I can't use it, that sucks. Now I need a obd1 standard ecu. I don't want to fry my auto ecu trying to rig it. Want to save time as well.

What ECU do you currently have?

The info I have says the 95 Impreza ECU does have an AT/MT identifier pin. If that's true, you should be able to do the same thing I did with my swap and make your AT ECU work.

Check out the electrical portion of my swap write up

I have the auto ecu. I did read your writeup, it seems to involve a lot of cutting and splicing. I am aware of the identifier pin on the ecu, I noticed it while researching how to connect my emanage. Your write up seems to say that for my situation I'd have to modify wiring for the cruise control, reverse lights, the relay that prevents cranking without the clutch pushed in, etc. I can do all these thing I guess, but I thought it would be more plug n play. I didn't know my impreza had a tcu either. The boxes under my driver side are tiny compared to the one you showed in your write up.

Yes, you will have to do the wiring modifications. The only way around it is to swap the entire wiring harness.....which is a FAR more laborous task if you ask me.
