Hey guys,
I got my car up and running but my clutch is GONE. So, i have to pick up a new one soon (car is at dealership) I'm looking for a clutch that is able to hold 250-300whp as I'm planning on running ~14-16lbs of b00st at some point. I know nothing of what is out there now. When i was a kid, ACT clutchs were the only ones offered and now I'm hearing that they sux0rz. So, recommend me a clutch for my 98RS. I'm not sure if the clutch is the same for the Ej22, so h00k up das inf0!! (also, this place charges $100 for a flywheel resurfacing, should I just look for a new one? Lightweight?) I feel old and out of touch ![]() Keith

I love my ACT - its a little stiff but holds the power great.
I was very dissapointed with my Exedy stg 1. As for the flywheel - I'd keep the stock one, but bring it to Napa or whoever for resurfacing. the place near me charges $10 a resurface so $100 isn't reasonable. |

Sorry to be a n00b, but what exactly does a lightweight flywheel do to make it a ***** on the street? What are the advantages of one? /off topic |

the advantage is your engine spins faster and goes through the rev range quicker. not sure how much effect this has on 1/4mile times though. |

the lw fly has greater effect as the rpms rate of change goes up.

act absolutely! i have one and love it. i also have the act streetlite flywheel and the car revs SO much quicker. i recommend it as well.
and the act clutch will hold all the power you want and more. untuned my car was hitting probably around 250whp and the clutch did not slip once. i too am running a 98 rs tranny. just don't bang gears or you will break something (trust me). act's are very grippy. an exedy stage 1 will NOT hold that kind of power. just ask james (americanyouth) about his wrx setup. i wouldn't even look into one. -mike |

the act it is...ordered it from Adam bloom at z1.
The car actually already has an act clutch, it lasted ~50k miles...teonly thing I don't like about it is the clutch feel...it is pretty stiff. Other than that, my car will be offically running soon..heading out to Franz at KTR to get tuned soon ![]() Ej22t with a t3/t4 = fun ![]() Aphex, I'll probably be there for a day or so getting tuned. |

2 things you did right, 1) you ordered the clutch from z1... good move, they got mine to me next day because i needed it so badly; 2) you're bringing the car to franz. franz is the man.
the act seems like a hate it or love it kind of thing. some people like me like having a clutch that actually feels like it's there, but it does get annoying on long drives. your setup sounds sick; curious to see what kind of numbers it will put down on ktr's heartbreaker are you using the full ej22t motor or just the block with some rs heads or something like that? |

i'm using the ej22t shortblock with my98 2.5rs heads.
i ordered from z1 cuz I know adam bloom (went down with him to the 22b meet 5 years ago...I also got a ride in his RST a long time ago ) and they had the best price.for numbers on this car, I'm expecting around 250whp at 12lbs. i have to get bigger injectors (i have 440ccs now) at some point so i can really turn this bitch loose. I talked to a guy in CO who literally had the exact same setup (ejtt2, link ecu, stock rs tranny, same turbo but ~750cc injectors) who ran mid 12s so i'm looking forward to breaking....I mean, playing with this car![]() |
