Default Hydra Base Map 2001 2.5RS Impreza

Anyone has a map where the timing is considerably close to the target?? I have a map for a wrx, but the car is considerably out of its correct timing, and changes in the fuel map are not helping much. The tunner who is doing the work, is not very experienced with Subarus( There are not many tunners in Central America) and he suggested to find a base map closer to the car specifications to avoid running into lean conditions and possibly damage something... Anyone can help? or provide material to help in this issue??

Any help is appreciated...

There's a guy on these forums that completely mapped his RS by himself. You'll have to search for it. Very talented. Maybe from Arizona. About a year ago.

Unfortunately, N/A 2.5RS owners with Hydras are very rare, and available map info is even rarer. I've got a Hydra on my 99RS (formerly on Pleiades's 00RS), but the original Hydra map was VERY basic (they don't officially have a 2.5RS base map, so it was more of a "limp map" for a turbo-ed Legacy to use to drive to a tuning shop) and the map that Pleiades last used was far better, but had much more aggressive timing, and until I figure out what's up with my phantom knock issues, I can't really tell you whether that's a useful timing map or not (though supposedly it mirrors the stock timing curve at least).

Unfortunately, Phil at Element Tuning doesn't work with the N/A Subarus (they only have the exclusive agreement for the factory-turbo Subarus).

I've seen some posts on RS25.com about some turbo'ed 2.5RSs with Hydras, so they may have some input as well.

EDIT: Also, I just noticed you are in Atlanta. Have you tried TopSpeed? I know they've worked with Hydra-powered Subarus several times before.

HOK and NeaD both have NA engines. Really the maps should not be that different from an off boost STI map, but I'd think the ECU wiring would be significantly different.

Holy crap...that second link has some great info. I can't believe I never found that thread before...thanks!!! I've learned more about autotuning and fuel trim by reading that thread than I did reading all of Element's Tuning guides plus the Hydra manual combined!

True, but fortunately, they do offer a 99-01 2.5RS plug-n-play harness. I find it strange that a company offers us a plug-n-play ECU, yet doesn't even seem to have an official base map for these cars.

they do offer base maps.
However, when dealing with Turbo RSs there are only so many maps you carry. Not every turbo rs is the same. INjector sizes differ greatly, cam choices, compression ratios, turbo selections, intercooler chioces etc etc. It's not like offering a base map for a wrx.

when i was part of the beta testing for the hydra. I was the third or fourth turbo rs. But my map was my map, because I was running cobb cams, factory block, rc eng 550's (when most were running 440), and an MSD ignition setup.

Sounds to me like your injectors are not getting the signal from the map. I'd check your 1) wiring and 2) your I/O mappings.

The Hydra has some weird default settings that may enable you to start the car even is some part of the programming is not hooked up.

If the map you have is from a car with avcs it will cause alot of surging, I had this problem and had to add fuel to the entire map on .5 and that fixed the problem. then when I hooked up the avcs it ran really rich. This might not be your problem at all I just found it interesting.

I'm thinking of getting a hydra, would be interested in a base map.

Thanks,
