Talking 93 legacy wagon auto "turbo"!!!!!

Yesterday at work I was heading back to HQ's when I saw a legacy wagon that was in front of me that had the words "turbo" next to awd. When he parked I asked him if where he got the car and if I could see the engine. When he opened the hood my jaw dropped to see a 2.2l turbo engine in the engine with the scoop on the hood. The car had 96000 miles on it. he told me he paid 5000 for it. It was in mint condition only one thing it was an auto. Is this a unigue car? Or were many made with the auto and a wagon? I thought I would never see such a sight ever let alone in the town I patrol.

Yup, that is correct. Much easier to find one with an automatic then a manual. The engine is essentially a Japanese spec WRX that has been enlarged to 2.2 liters, but with SOHC heads. The manual transmissions use the 'pull-style' clutch just like the Jap spec stuff as well.

To date I have seen only one turbo wagon and know of one more in CA, it makes me wonder how many wagons have been made............

'92 Turbo Legacy, 5-spd, 140,000mi and still going strong

Saw one at my mechanic's garage in London. was interested in buying the engine and try to mod the engine onto my OBS.....
Can the turbo in that auto legacy wagon be used on my 5spd 2.2l OBS?

Subaru produced the Legacy 2.2 liter turbo's as sedans and wagons from 1991 to 1994. The vast majority were automatics. The engine in the turbo's is specific to those models and is not the standard 2.2 liter engine found in the
NA Legacy's. The 1991 turbo's also came with a limited slip diff.

The wagons were only offered from 92-94 and only came in automatics as Ben said. Fun cars, but you better have the past service records for the transmission .

Pete, from 91-94, a little over 13,000 Legacy turbos( all models) were sold so I would say the wagons are as rare as teeth on a woodpecker

This thread confused me for a while...

Up here in Seattle it is *thick* with Turbo wagons... I was surprised people had never seen them...

Now if my little green wagon was a turbo...

Randy, are you talking about any subaru turbo wagon( The EA series are a dime a dozen just about anywhere) or Legacy Turbo wagons which are indeed rare. If your location is in fact thick with Legacy turbo wagons, that's a rarity in itself.

There are a number of Legacy Turbo Wagon here in Colorado too. I was told that there were about 2000 or so made.

I agree with RandyF on sightings of legacy turbo wagons here in the seattle area. I saw one yesterday at a used car dealership. It was maroon and they wanted 9995 for it. It looked really nice body wise. I probably see 1 a week on the 405. Tons of older subarus in this area... or subarus in general.

Yeah, I wish to change my position back to where I originally stood. I have seen three in the last two days... one guy I was next to at a light, and when he took off I could hear the boost, so I knew he was a turbo...
