Default Have EcuTek and want AP, what are my options?

I currently have EcuTek EM tuned by SS in my 05 Sti. I want to upgrade my turbo and can't find an EcuTek tuner anywhere near me (Detroit). So my question is:

Can I sell/trade my EcuTek ecu for a Cobb tuned ecu?
Is there an imobolizer that will prevent this from working?
Would anyone even be interested in doing a trade?

I am getting tired at staring at parts on my basement floor and want them on my car. TIA

Try giong to EcuTeks home page for a list of dealers and start from there. There are Cobb tuners in your area. Try diong a trade or a sell on clubwrx.net or any of the other Suby forums.

I went to the EcuTec home page and there are no EcuTek tuners even remotely close unfortunatly.

I thought I read that there is an imobilizer function on the 05 ecu's and that swapping may not be an option. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks

You're correct. The 2005 US STi ECUs do have an immobilizer feature which requires initialiaztion via the Subaru Select Monitor with appropriate module.

You can't trade them easily.

http://www.pdxtuning.com/ will tune by mail. Many people down here in Houston are doing that. You try it, and log a few pulls. Then they make some fine adjustments.

I thought if you have ecutek, then buy an AP, the AP uses your existing ecutek tune as the basemap??? Then you can use ST to tweak right?

Or am I also SOL cause I have an ECUTEK'ed 05 ECU?

You thought wrong. The AP WILL overwrite your tune.

you could always buy a new ecu, maybe from a totalled STi doing a part-out. then AP that ECU, so incace you ever change your mind, the Ecutek is still there.
