Post Intake Silencer Removal (snorkusectomy) Results

A plan that's been in the works for several months...

Last weekend, I finally got around to removing the stock intake silencer and doing G-tech pro runs before and after. I feel that this mod does nothing for the performance of the car. In fact, it added a couple tenths of a second to both my 0-60 and 1/4mi times. The actual data can be found on my website under G-Tech Data.

I may be noticing a slight increase in gas mileage, but I think it's too soon to say for sure.

Conclusion... I believe this is a mod that does little else but make your car sound good. It is, however, completely free and takes little time, so it is not really a waste.

I guess that's all I wanted to say. Any questions, let me know.

interesting...

a couple of questions:
1) when were the runs done? ie. did you do the initial runs (w/ K&N) the same day as the snorketomy runs?

2)were the 2 sets of runs done on the same strech of road?

3)did you do a ECU reset after doin the snorketomy? this is a big one!

4)did you also remove the neck-down gasket located between the airbox and wheelwell? This makes the 2.7" opening a 3.5" opening.

Not knocking your test protocol or snything, I just want to compare apples to apples.

I would do a test here at 5500ft elevation if I could borrow a G-tech for a day or so... I would be interested in not only what my 0-60 & 1320' times are here but I would do it in steps - - such as (1)just a K&N drop-in, then (2)the K&N + snorketomy, then (3)finally K&N + snorketomy + neck down gasket-ektomy.

anyway... I 'think' the (number 3) above version has improved my 98' GT's acceleration. especially between 5000-6400 rpm's, but that 'could' be in my head

I wonder if anyone else has done any 1/4 mi. time comnparisons like this- - I'l do a search

later- keep up the testin'

well...it's is weight reduction!

Kinda strange that you should have slower 1/4times with it's removal... It constricts airflow of the intake, sucks hot air from the engine bay and it's main purpose, is just to slow down the air flow into the intake in order to silence the air, aka no whine. Hence: Silencer.... So go figure that out?!?

Some good questions Farfrumgerman. Here goes!

> when were the runs done? Were the 2 sets of runs done on the same strech of road?
They were both done about 2 hours apart on the same stretch of road.

> did you do a ECU reset after doin the snorketomy?
Yes, however, it was right before the second set of runs, so I do want to wait a while and re do them after the ECU is completely re-acquainted with the engine.

> did you also remove the neck-down gasket located between the airbox and wheelwell?
Not yet, because I planned to do the test in steps as you stated also. I actually first wanted to compare the stock paper filter to the k&n drop in, but I remembered that after I took out the silencer.

I will definitely keep everyone posted about any further info.
