Default Brake Comparison: Stock WRX vs. 4pot/2pot vs. Brembos

I would like to hear from people that have upgraded their WRX’s brakes to the STi 4&2 pots and the Brembos, and to know how happy they were, and how the brakes compare against each other.

ive gone through those 3 setups. as far as bang for the buck, if you dont need the bling factor of the 4/2, and are running 17" wheels, the setup from a 2005 Legacy GT turbo may suit you the best.

the sti rear 2 pot is a waste of money imo, it looks nice though.

i like the front subaru 4 pistons, its inexpensive and pretty good. my current brembo setup is unfadable (on my car), but rather pricey.

if going tracking, save up some dough and consult the guys at stoptech. they will make you stop fast.

I would agree. I may consider doing the same thing. My current setup of 4-pot, 2-pot and Powerslot's BBK work excellent for a street car. But since I'm doing more and more track and autox with the car I need something better.

^^^ with good fluid, lines, and pads you may not gain anything by up'ing your brake size. Wait and see if you fade them with proper pads...

what is the deal with those powerslot front rotors?
where did you get them? how much?


edit: powerslot.com, $384 for front 2, 13 inch 2 piece rotors.

i see these in my future

hopefully Hyper will chime in. He said he had the 4 pots on his old forrester and now has brembos front and rear. i don't what the rear of the forrester was. he said there was no comparision.

i have gone from 1 pot 9" front brakes to the 4 pot 11" brakes on the front and the diffrerence is immense. i don't plan to go to brembos because i run 15" and 16" wheels. and my 17" wheels don't clear brembos.

You could also consider the Racing Brake 4-pot front caliper upgrade (~$1100).

I have a big review here:

Its stock size, but the calipers are light (they say about half the FHI Iron 4-pots) and their rotor design is top notch.
I get pad fade now since i am running HPS, but the rotor and caliper are unfadeable to this point.

You can also stage yourself up to a BBK in the future if you feel the need.
Basically, when it came time to buy new rotors, you could get larger rotors + the caliper bracket and be in business.

You could also step up to their stock size 2-piece rotor, which is very well designed.

Their caliper uses a good pad design that allows you to get pretty much any compound you want.


Racing brake is also developing a rear bracket to allow a bigger rotor with the stock caliper.

P.S. I have driven a car with the Brembo GT2 front BBK. And it definately kicks ass... This is just another good budget concious option.
