Question Car smelling funny

after driving up a long steep, steady road, (maybe 2km) to drop a friend off i get out and notice my car smells exactly like burning breaks.
This is the second time i've noticed it happen. (on the same hill too)
I'm not over heating and all my fluids seem fine. Anyone got any ideas?

Your clutch may be slipping... same smell. Or maybe the smell was coming from cars burning their brakes going the opposite direction downhill.

No, there is no clutch with an automatic transmission. I would say it might be your brakes sticking a bit, but then the smell would be all the time, not just when you go up that one hill.

well...the smell can be anything...from simply ur brake sticking a little bit (should get them all re-lubed if it hasn't been serviced for awhile, or i have seen many mechanic just slap on the brake pads and brakes need to be re-done after a short while)...or the smell can be from your catalytic convertor...or u have a little bit oil leak somewhere...or your radiator's efficiency is not flowing as good anymore and the engine's temp goes up a little unusual ONLY when u go up a long steady hill (this one is very dangerous, u might end up overheating especially when summer comes ~ original cluster is not very accurate that's why there is still ppl who wants to invest for some nice Defi Water Temp gauge to monitor coolant's temperature better)...your car can also be running too lean or too rich due to O2 sensors / knock sensor signal etc...if you have an automatic, how often and when was your last time u change your transmission fluid? and how about the transmission filter? spark plugs? air filter? fuel filter? pcv?

there is just a lot more to know before the problem can be located, or it might not be even a problem
