Smile Installed a 2K factory alarm.

Cost about $120, an add on for keyless entry. The installation took me about 2 hrs, since I didn't have the right tools and was on the phone constantly.

No cutting is required, just find the connectors and plug in, however, finding the connectors was a bit difficult. I did my installation at 9:00pm inside my dark garage. I had trouble locating the connectors mentioned in the manual. They were well hiden away and tided with blue tape.

manual does not recommend adjust the sensitivity, however, after the shock testing, I raised the sensitivity 15 degree. It was still not good enough, since I had to hit on the main chassis frame in order to trigger the alarm. (I didn't test it until next day.)

Anyway, this is one simple upgrade that can be done easily by following the instructions. Oh, be sure to have magnetic screwdriver and flash light handy. I spent a lot of time finding the screws I dropped.

how does this compare to an aftermarket alarm? I had a Clifford on my VW and was very happy w/it.... Is this thing gonna keep those jerks away from my car for $150 - or do i need to save up $350 and get a "better" alarm?

Aftermarket unit will allow you to have trunk release button (extra cost). Factory alarm will not be able to do it.

Factory unit really need to turn up the impact sensor. I can't not set it off knocking hard on the door, hood, glass...
Unless it's been hit by a car, I don't think it will go off.

I will try to turn up the sensitivity over the weekend and see how it goes...
