Impreza GC8 Stab in the dark: Anyone want to trade P1 springs for my STi V5s?

Hey all. Like the title says, I'm thinking of some Prodrive P1 springs for my car. I have STi V5 struts/springs, and have had them installed since October 2001. About 90K miles on the set.

I'm thinking I'd be happier with P1s, with the research I've done. I know where to find them new, but am hoping for used, an even swap maybe (negotiable). Doesn't have to be right away, could wait until a nice garage day in spring or something, maybe.

Thanks-

No not at all! The V5s I hear actually ride a bit stiffer. The P1s just have a ride height that I like better. A little higher in the rear.

They're meant for special STi RA struts, not the V5s, but that's fine. Some like the STi more, some like P1s.

Doesn't really matter, mine are high mileage anyway.

Yeah, it'd be great if you want to do that! Maybe by then I can save up for GpN tophats.

Too bad you're so far away, bugger. Maybe there will be a big meet somewhere in MD or something that's kinda in between us, in late winter or early spring or something. I'm sure folks would be there who'd know how to do the swap, too. A guy from NESIC did most of the work on mine.

i'm definately down for the swap, it isnt too difficult. the most tedious portion would be unhooking the brake line from the caliper (as or cars arent as convenient as the wrx where the line slides onto the strut and affixed wiht a clip) ours actually passes through the strut.

let me know, once we figure out where to do it thats in a decent place between us, then i'm down 100%.

i want something a slight bit lower (yea yea..) but primarily stiffer. and for free, its worth the experiment.... while i save up for a different suspension setup all together

I'm not 100% sure it's stiffer, but that's a lot of what I read. Spring rates are about equal, with slight differences (see www.northursalia.com --> Tech Docs --> Spring Rate Chart)... but the P1s were supposedly created for the UK, more progressive spring that's softer until you corner.

That's what I want.

I actually did the Dremel mod on my front struts. Which basically removes that piece of metal on the outside of the strut that the brake hose has to go through. The clip still fastesns, only on the remaining two portions. But it's never come off since 2001, so no worries. Check out the www.scoobymods.com page, you'll see.

Well, put it this way:

It's been 5.5 years. Yeah, I can wait. Christine and I may be moving this year, but it won't be until at least May. So long as it's prior to late April or something, that ought to be cool.

No clue if we'll be moving to northwest PA or staying closer to here, yet. We'll find out soon.

Oh, here's a couple somewhat decent shots of the ride height:

I'd hotlink, but I've wiped out my bandwidth for the month. Should be good by tomorrow.

Anyway... Theoretically my car should squat a bit more in the rear. Fronts are about the same I think.

Yep, pretty close... but mine appears a bit lower in the rear.

I know I have a hard time getting fingers in the rear fenderwell, and it appears to be different on your setup.

Cool pics. I like your LJ, too. Any rough ballpark of how many miles on the springs??
