Default Ford Plant Bans Everything but Fords From Parking Lot

Looks like Ford's last resort to target employees who don't drive Fords. That's a way to boost moral.

----

From AP.

Plant Bans Everything But Fords From Parking Lot

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Starting next Wednesday, it's Fords only in the parking lot of the company's truck plant in Dearborn.

The plant manager said the parking lot can be used only by employees who drive a car or truck built by Ford or one of its subsidiaries.

The ban applies to salaried and hourly workers with parking permits. Workers who don't drive Ford products can park in an employee lot across the street from the plant.

The United Auto Workers local president at the plant applauds the move for the 2,600 people who work there.

The ban applies to salaried and hourly workers with parking permits.

Got a link.. I'm curious.

In addition, if they've made reliable cars, then they wouldn't need to applaud anything. Since they're imposing this, then they should offer a very attractive offer to their employees... or is this just a marketing technique to try and sell their cars before they start closing all 12 plants by 2012

The Dearborn Truck Plant parking policy will allow vehicles made by non-U.S. Ford brands such as Mazda, Volvo and Land Rover, Sullivan said.

At least you can drive a volvo, jag or mazda in

Sure its a great Idea.... Thay might just sell 10 more cars & piss-off 2,500 other poeple who hate there cars anyway.....

The sad part about this is; most of the people that work there are fat and need the walk anyway....

GM and DC do the same thing. Ford is just late getting on the bandwagon.

I don't think GM and DC limit it to just GM and DC. They just draw the line between foriegn and domestic. Which is pretty silly anyway. Shame on you for parking your Legacy, built in Indiana, next to a Lumina built in Mexico.

What about car dealerships? Will the salesmen have to drive Fords as well? Like when I go to a Mitsubishi or Subaru dealer and the salesmen drive Honda's and Toyota's.

This is actually not that new of a thing. In the 70s all of the US automakers only allowed cars of their manufacture in the lots at their plants. To be honest, I didn't even know that it had ever stopped being that way.

Funny - I always take note of the non-DC cars in the Belvedere, IL Neon/Caliber plant lot when I cruise down I-90.

I noticed a new (Alabama-made) Hyundai Sonata and a Chevy Cobalt this afternoon.

I've never seen a non-GM at the GM plant in Martinsburg, WV. Though I don't know if there's specifically a guidline against it.

At least GM has a pretty broad spectrum to pick from.

This is nothing new at all - and I don't mean in just the auto industry.

There was that news story about a guy caught on TV at a football game drinking Coors that got fired because he worked at a Budweiser plant, or somethign along those lines.

My company was doing some work at a local Coca Cola office, and we were repeated told to not bring in any Pepsi products into that office.

It's just corporate BS going too far, and none of it is new.

In the 80's and 90's it had gone to UAW plants only allowed UAW vehicles in the lots. At least at GM, but every place has it's own twists. Legacy OK, Impreza no go.....

Peace,

Greg
