Have you considered just swapping in an EJ25 shortblock? Keep your EJ22 heads and build a Frankenstein motor?

The 98 RS is not known as one of the more bombproof Subaru engines - head gasket problems, etc. Consider the franken setup with the 2.5 shortblock. I dunno. The rest of the folks here in Conversions will have way better answers for you.
