Post Just installed this wierd factory option, air filteration system.

Since the filters doesn't cost much to get, I decided to get it with my security upgrads from Dale for my 2K Legacy GT.

I was quite looking forward to it until I read the lable came with the filters, "the filter element should be replaced every 12Kmi, more often if operated in dusty area.

Installation is not like the filter for the engine. Got to take out the glove box, side panel to access the fan blower. so many screws that after I complete the work, I still have 2 left over screws that I have no idea where that goes.

Oh well, I just buy this just to try it out, don't expect much from it. Maybe I just junk them after summer 00.

It sounds as if the filters were designed as an afterthought. I think someone who suffers from hayfever or dust allergies might want to go through the hassle of changing the elements at least every 12K, but I think for most people they are a waste of money.

After all, you like to drive with the sunroof and windows open ocasionally, right? Think about how much dust and pollen comes in through there. If you wanted to have much benefit from the filters you would have to keep the car closed up tight all the time.

I can see a use for them if you have to drive a lot on dusty gravel roads, but then they would clog up even faster. It's easier to put the a/c on recirculate at times like that.

Too bad the mount wasn't engineered so the elements slide in and out without having to rip the box apart.

Does anyone have an idea how some of the other manufacturers did this? Are they all so difficult to change?

I'll pass, I think.

Hard to believe...and you could find no easier access to the filter location? Some other vehicles allow changing an "air" filter
from engine compartment near where ventilation entry is.
Most japanese designs seem more thought out than this.
Oh well...

Did models prior to MY00 offer the air filtration kit? If not, sounds like this is the usual version 1.0 problems. Let's hope that the first year of the new H-6 fairs better.
