So the UPS adds brokerage fee's to the package coming from the States on top of customs and duty fees, how is FedEX? Do they have any hidden fees that I should be aware of ?

I recently had ~$1000 worth of parts shipped from Boxer4Racing using FedEx. I think the initial cost of shipping was a bit higher then UPS, but they only charged me $7 brokerage plus the GST and PST on the parts. This was a bix long box the parts came in too. That was all I paid, nothing hidden.

If you feel like going for a little drive ( about 1 hour ) you could get it shipped to Point Roberts and then bring it across the border yourself. No brokerage fees at all. $7 for fees does sound good though from Fed EX. Flaps, did they charge you duty on top of everything else?

UPS over-the-boarder 'brokerage' fees are plain robbery. If you get it shipped UPS, have it sent to WA somewhere for pickup.
Otherwise FedEx or USPS over-the-border fees are much, MUCH cheaper, if any at that. Had the corner lights for my car shipped UPS from States to Canada: lights $24 US, UPS's fee $25.xx CDN. Had a trunk shipped UPS to Sumas, WA: No fee, paid couple bucks in taxes at border. Had Nike golf clubs ($800 value) shipped USPS to Canada: paid couple bucks to Canada Post. |

One thing I learnt from the shipping agents is to ship small expensive items with express! with express you dont get the brokerage fee that high but it cost more to ship.
my experiences: case 1. I bought a used Perrin pulley for US$80 and paid $15 for standard shipping with UPS. My brokerage fee was CAD$60. Rediculous! and I had to wait for a week! case 2: I learnt my lesson. I bought an EGT gauge (US$190) from gruppe-s and had it shipped with expedited UPS for US$40. Guess what! no brokerage and I waited 2 days for the gauge to get home ![]() |
