Default adding hood scoop to L

I'm probably going to USDM WRX turbo the '95 L. Anybody have any ideas what to do with adding a hood scoop to a non-scoop hood? This is a rally car, so it doesn't have to look stock, but I don't want it to look nasty either.

Aside from OEM options such as JDM or RS hoods, I'm thinking of just cutting a hole in the existing hood and finding a cheapo add-on hood scoop or an OEM one to fit into it. Then add on or fab the splitter parts underneath.

I'm particularly interested in some aftermarket scoops that would sit on top of the hood and not need me to create a recessed flange for it to sit in.

Has anyone had success with this approach and/or have particular aftermarket scoops or parts they might recommend?

Thanks

... if you don't want it to look nasty... then go for the Subaru scooped hood.

I cut a hole in my hood compete with tabs for mounting an '02 scoop, took a little while and a lot of trimming but I think it turned out looking ok. I did a pretty shoddy job IMO, but without being up really close everyone thinks it's stock.

Good enough for my beat to hell car.

Nice looking hood scoop! I assume you had to cut out some of the hood supporting frame underneath? How well did it seal and where did you put the scoop distance from the back edge?

Andy: yeah, I should. Did you put on a TMIC then? I thought you were running the Turbo Legacy FMIC?

MRT used to list an aftermarket scoop that looked like 98-01 RS, but was made for adding to a flat hood... might check their site

my car's not a rally ride, so I bought a version 1 hood instead

What rulebook are you building this car to? Rallycross or Stage Rally? If you want to get into Stage Rally then Rally America won't let you run Open Class your first year out as a novice. Starting in 2005 all novices must start out in Production or G2 unless they have major previous racing experience. I had to get a special novice exemption just to run my 137 HP Impreza 2.2 L in Production GT.

Mine is an '02 hoodscoop over an '02 TMIC. I'll take measurements off the back of the hood tonight if I can remember. I had to make a fiberglass air splitter to get it to funnel the air down onto the IC. I cut out quite a bit of the underhood structure and a nice sized hole in the top of the hood. It took longer to do that and get it right than it took to bolt up the new crossmember and engine.

Uhm. Rally car? I wouldn't really trust an FMIC down low scooping up gravel, weeds, and debris.
