Unhappy entertaining thoughts on two scratches.....

Okay,

So I noticed on my car this morning that I had a scratch/scape on my door
I starts just past the wheel well and stretches back about 5" or so and is half way between the protective moulding and the door sill. Now what is curious is I have almost exactly the same scratch/scape on the passenger side door too! Neither myself nor my girlfriend have had any incidents in the car. What else is that these "wounds" have a slight reddish colour to them. It almost seems like the car has been sandwiched in somewhere and has had to pull out.

So what I am asking is; what would cause something like this? something that low and on both sides. it is rather perplexing. I have been looking at other cars on the road and most have either; black bumpers or if they do have a coloured bumper it is at the same height as my protective moulding. My parking spot has a concrete pillar on the one side and a dark coloured vehicle on the other.

These "wounds" are not very deep and I am hoping that I could buff them out, any advise on how to do that? *looking in mwilkies direction*

thanks much

Lightbulb

A giant lobster tried to grab your car while he was in your neighborhood last night.

Sorry to hear that Bruce.. do u park your car outside? Maybe it could've been somebody that walked around your car and he was holding something while checking out your car?

Did someone key your car?? If it is too deep you should go make a claim with ICBC.. and while your at painting the car you could ask to get that grill painted too.

maybe my car has crabs!
or lobsters, depends on who you ask, I guess!

I don't think it has been keyed and anyways who would key a car that low down?

keep the ideas rolling people!

thanks

Lightbulb enlightenment - compliments of my g/f

So having been plagued by this dilemma for a couple of days now, my wonderful, beautiful girlfriend came up with the most credible and most likely correct solution.

What is a foot tall, orange and would leave a mark on either side of my car?

A cone

So needless to say, she has been doing the happy dance all morning.

Thanks to all who even entertained a thought about my problem, I guess now I gotta go clean my car. hehehehe

Angry Cones... not only on autocross...

Driving east on Hastings today around the Sperling Ave. (on my way to school) and for some reason about 20 cones were left scattered ALL over the road. Couldn't avoid all of them (without side-swipping somebody or going into opposing traffic) and ran over one and found out my car isn't high enough to clear a traffic cone.

Quick inspection revealed no damage, but I wouldn't even know who would be responsible for any damage (myself? ICBC? Dept. of Engineering?) Maybe I should go take some pictures to be safe.

Default Cone damage

The worst that probably happened is that you'll get plasticy "scuff" marks that wipe off easily. The ABSOLUTE worst is that the cone could melt onto your hot exhaust headers and make a stink!

Actually that isn't the worst. The worst that could happen is the cone will start ripping things from your car's underbody. Plastic fenderlinings, weatherguards, etc...they could all come off. My front bumper plastic underguard thing was kinda ripped off by that cone that kamikazi'd itself under my car at the last autox.

Um, yeah, don't you hate it when suicidal cones jump under you car while you're trying to autox?

Talking Waxman to the rescue!!!!

Well, If the cone scuffs don't just come off with the next washing, you can try a mild paint cleaner like Megiures Mirror Glaze swirl remover. If that does not work you will have to get a stronger one like the fine cut cleaner. Apply with a foam pad or cotton terry cloth and then remove with a cotton terry cloth. That should solve your problem. If you are at the auto cross on Sunday at Boundary Bay, let me know and I could bring some of my stuff and save you the money. However if you want to buy them, you can purchase them at some of the larger Crappy Tire stores or at Lordco Auto Parts.

Yeah, that's about right.

I prefer to think of cone marks as battle trophies.

This after my 11-cone funnyfest at the last autocross.

Darren, Ashton and I had to rebuild the corner where you took out 10 cones in a single pass. That has to be a Subie record
