Default Over 400whp with a T518Z??

has anyone seen the new issue of turbo magazine (with the glowing header on the k20 motor on the cover)? the wrx thats featured claims to have made, it think it said, like 420 whp on a greddy T518Z 18G kit w/ stock internals and block at 24psi. does this sound a little far-fetched to anyone else. if this is correct, forgive me and i give that dude an apology

i was thinking it was high also since its using the stock wrx heads and cams. and i know by personal experience those wrx cams suck major when you get pushing some air(2.5L with fp green and stock wrx heads in my case) but none the less its a nice car.

Hmm I doubt it....I run a T518Z externally gated at 1.6bar, on a JDM Ver8 Spec C, 100 octane, big maf, FMIC, header, the works. The best I can get on the Mustang dyno at Gruppe-S is 330whp. Then again a stock STi there is 220whp. Soo....who's to say.

May be a typo and not whp then it makes sense, was he spraying and running race gas .... 18g's I agree with the above comment of 330whp is a good number with a stock block WRX

Guys,

IMO 420whp is high. Mikaust made 360whp (TXS dynapak) on C-16 with that turbo (Greddy 18g). But everyone knows dyno numbers are just that...numbers. This turbo is still quite capable as he also ran a best of 118mph trap speed. That is smoking for such a small turbo. I guess the bottom line is regardless of what the numbers say this turbo is a solid performer.

Let me guess whose dyno it was on.....XS Engineering?

I dynoed 375 whp there with a vf34 on 91 octane. I'm pretty sure XS Eng does most of the dyno sheets they show in Turbo. I wouldnt believe them.

Default 18g

I made 348hp on pump gas on a stock usdm 2.0 on race gas we never dynoed it, we just tuned it on the way to the drag strip. It traped at 121mph in the quarter with the 18g..

it wasnt dyno'd, it was claimed...the other thing that got me was he was only running 650 injectors and i dont think it specified fuel type....i'm not knocking the turbo or anything, i just thought it was a little off

400bhp maybe. IMO most of those mags put whatever they think will sell the mag with little attention to detail (blah blah deadlines blah)

at least they are writing about subarus

90% of numbers in the trash mags(majority of import rags) are off of race gas.

the most I've seen that turbo hit on race gas is around 350ish whp which is Bill's car from I-speed. I think the run was on a dynojet.

^ I agree most numbers are made up. Like when they featured kingpin's wrx. They just assumed and wrote down that it ran a 10.8 1/4 mile.

wow .. stock injectors, TMIC, cosworth pistons , no cams... no alky with 91 octane out down 400 whp and 460 wtq!!!! still hard to believ.e. and the engine bay looks stock "to me" ...

I don't care if it's 05 or 06. 2.0 or 2.5.. not even STIs could make that much power with that turbo.. amazing...
