Default cracked cylinder heads- how common?

patient is 02 with a burnt exhaust valve. Machine shop now found minor cracks from the spark plug holes to intake valve seats. They claimed they probably are not leaking but could cause a problem in the future. Just wondering how common this is and if others have run into this and under what conditions.. motor overheated.. etc.

I had the same issue when I had my head rebuilt. The machinist tested and there was no leakage but he also siad that I would probably have to replace my heads the next time they need a valve job. It can be caused by numerous things such as overheating, the wrong plug heat range, overtightening of plugs, etc.
