Subaru Stars cobb or vishnu

I own a 05 sti and I want to buy either a vishnu stage one version370 or I want to go with a APS DR Series 3.5" Turbo to Tip Race Exhaust with cobbs accessport. Im not sure which one will be benifiting me more for the money. Either way im going to be paying about a 1.5k. But before I drop any money blindly i decieded to check up the posts to see if anyone has any comments on the products I decieded.
Facts: Vishnu gives u a 3. inch turbo back exhaust w/ ur ecu being reflashed and the xede. They clam ull be running 12.4. with 370 hp.
The APS is a 3.5 Turbo back and i would buy the cobbs accessport w/ maps for 350 hp.

Dont trust HP numbers from either. They will both give you about the same power.

the choice should reflect your long term plans.. for example, are you going to get a reflash after every mod? conversly, do you want to run limited ots maps?

vishnu reflash or cobb ap... neither are user tunable

i can tell you this, at a recent dyno day, there was a Vishnu Stg2 (VF34, UP, TBE, TMIC, Pulley, Pinks) there and the tune SUCKED. compared to a less modded Cobb AP VF30 setup (VF30, Pinks, UP, TBE) the Vishnu made ~30whp less than the Cobb VF30 setup. the power of the Vishnu Stg2 was comperable to the Cobb Stg2 (TBE, AP) setup.
the tune on the Vishnu setup sucked, the AFR's were ~10:1 and even dropped into 9.x:1. while the Cobb VF30 AFR's were ~11.5:1 then richend up to 10.7:1.

for OTS maps/tune, the Cobb AP is WAY better, don't let Vishnu feed you any BS.

There are 348726423 happy Cobb users on here (myself included), I only occasionally see someone admit that they are using an XEDE.

For the same price of the XEDE which IS user tunable, he could buy the Accessport and StreetTuner which IS user tunable. So in essence, both are user tunable for the same amout of money.

Right, I agree. I wouldn't buy a XEDE either. I was only correcting for posterity's sake what 23b_rex said .

Perhaps you didn't read my previous post.

Dynocomp.com

They carry APS products and are VERY professional in what they tune and sell. You WON'T be dissapointed.

i have the Vishnu setup with the Exedy on my EVO it works for what it is. i find the user interface a little lacking IMHO
on my FXT i run a full COBB stage 2 with the street tuner. I'm 100% pleased with the fit and finish of the products and the user friendlyness( is that a word?) with how the ST works.

where are you located?

I found the exact opposite with my Vishnu Stage 2 base map. I no longer have this setup but when I see some misinformation spread I want to stand in and give my exp. I used to have a vishnu xede, vf30, sti pinks, walbro pump, fmic, inlet, catless exhaust and I ran the base vishnu stage 2 map on 91 octane for about 2 weeks before getting on the dyno. The base map was AWESOME. Shivs first pull netted 260 whp on their dyno dynamics dyno (low reading dyno) When the tune was done I was up to 274whp on 91 which is a nice gain but that base map was very nice for a base map. Back when I had that setup I saw alot of cobb vf30 91 octane maps put down very low numbers. So I dunno what to say, must have been a random fluke or an issue with that car since i had a totally different experience.

#'s on our local (Mustang) heartbreaker

Stock WRX ~140whp
Stock STi ~200whp
Vishnu Stg2 ~175whp (i do not believe that this Stg2 had the EXDE, just the re-flash)
Cobb Stg2 ~175whp
Cobb VF30 ~200whp

If you're thinking of getting an XEDE you might as well think about getting a UTEC. In the end they are both piggybacks... save yourself the hassle and go flash if you don't feel like messing with things from time to time.

I'm running a map from Dynocomp on my car and it's been perfectly healthy and troublefree for 40k miles.

Im sorry, but thats VERY hard to believe....I dont want to get into it...Im one of the few that have seen the results first hand, and Vishnu > COBB as far as WHP numbers go.

Vishnus stage 2 BASEMAP averages 245-255whp on their Dyno Dynamics dyno, whereas my COBB stg 2 BASEMAP, fully catless put down 185whp on their dyno.

Vishnu is more than likely quoting the 1/4 mile times when using 100 octane and the map switching via the XEDE. On pump gas, with a good driver, the V370 should go 12.6-12.7 no problem.

Get a UTEC... As long as you know someone local that can tune it.

I have the XEDE for over 2 years now on my EVO, and it has been flawless! I would give it a try. You don't have to listen to Vishnu, listen to US who have had GREAT expierence with them. just my 2c. I cant talk too much smack on a Subie site, but my friends who own STI's will be getting the XEDE.

Too bad Subaru firmware != Evo firmware.

How long has SMART been available for the Evo? ...and when will it be available for the Subarus?

Not sure. I dont have it yet. Is the subie and evo firmware the same? I am not aware of that, nor that bright in the "wires/boxes" department. If they are the same, the results should be the same, no? I dont know when it will be available for the subies. can check.

I don't think the firmware is the same... I think us Suby drivers are still running v2 and Evos get v3. That being said, I couldn't be happier with my Xede.

It was more of a rhetorical question. I know the firmware is not the same.

SMART has been out for the Evo for some time now, along with all sorts of new updates, features, version 3 XMap, etc. The "official" Subaru stuff is still stuck back on version 2.
