I'm getting my car Protuned by Topspeed in a few weeks.
I have a 1st-gen GT Spec header that is currently off of the car. I had ongoing problems getting the uppipe joint to seal with the header on, so I took it off several months ago and put the stock manifold back on. Is it worth the hassle to put it back on and hope I can get it to seal, or should I just stick with the factory manifold for now? What kind of gains with a header are people getting over a standard stg2 protune?

typical header results. . .gain HP in the top end, lose it on the bottom. If you are willing to sacrifice bottom end for top end, AND get the leak fixed, it's your choice go for it!

Most of the time when improving the flow of exhaust usually helps to gain power thru out the entire RPM range.... If you have any proof of your claim then I would glady retract my last statement. |

on a NA car headers will usually add power throughout the RPM range, on turbo applications a header usually creates a longer path to the turbo creating a small amount of lag in the front part of the RPM band. . .I'd find you proof, but i don't feel like it right now, maybe tomorrow k. I don't know if you're nitpicking or not, but for clarification i'm talking about aftermarket tublar headers. . . |

Hmm.. Sounds like it's not worth the trouble. I'll probably just leave it off then and possibly sell it.
Thanks. |

FWIW - I Talked with PDX Tuning about putting some Headers on my car with the install of the GT30r. They responded that the current exhaust manifold isn't a limiting factor and that it has better velocity to the turbo than current headers. He said the money could be better spent on other mods.
