Default LGT turbo swap problems

I'm swaping an MY05 LGT engine and tranny into an MY97 impreza L.
The problem I have encountered is that the Legacy gets it's vehicle speed from the ABS and it looks like it transfers it to the ecu via the CAN. My vehicle has no abs.

The tranny has a bolt in the hole where the mechnical speedo goes but when removed there is nothing there. Before I knew there was nothing behind the bolt I was planning on either seeing if the Legacy ecu could be flashed to use the electrical signal for vehicle speed sent back from my gauge cluster or to use an STI or Forester ecu because the use vehicle speed signal and the pinouts are pretty much identical minus and plus a few things.

Any ideas for how to solve my problem?
How important is vehicle speed to the ecu?
If it's not important what other options are the for a speedometer.
I'm going to post in tranny about the posibility of cracking open both my L tranny and the Legacy and retrofiting the mechanical parts for the speed sensor.
Thanks Joshua

P.S. I don't want to use the L tranny because the second gear syncros is gone and it's paired with an open rear diff.

i have pondered this for some time befor you started your swap

cracking the case might work i have no idea what you will find in there though that +using a 04 fxt/sti/baja xt and electric vss

even the old (ej20G) ecus look at the vss (its simmilar to hitting boost cut) i think its a saftey feature in realation to the top mount intercooler

what do the ecus look at the vss for? Is it just as a govener for the speed or is it used for other readings as well.

i suspect it is protection from intercooler heatsoak
1 factoid that cobb gave at his open house years ago is that the wrx turns off the radiator fans at 60 mph

wondering if the ecu dosn't limit boost in lower gears too

why don't you email trey and ask him?

Default solution?

I believe i found a solution. I looked at switching the mechanical from the tranny over and that's to much work I'm not feeling the whole cracking the tranny thing. So I found these two things: Speed Sensor

This Next Unit will allow me to send the proper signal to the gauge cluster that should be coming from the ABS computer. All I need to do is find out what that signal is. Any help here would be great.

Thanks,
Joshua

that might work for the speedo the data format input should be in the fsm

still think the ecu is gonna be pissed off that there is no abs/speed/??

I'm sure it's in the FSM but where it's really hard looking through all those computer files vs. a book. The ECU gets it's speed from the gauge cluster via the can as far as I can tell, so if I'm giving the speedo the proper signal the ecu will be happy as well.

Yeah LGT gauge cluster, I don't see that I have a choice. Though it won't match my Greddy gauges

Do a search for more infor the swap is long done and running. I would asume you would have the same problems even if you have abs because your ABS system isn't setup to be used for a VSS and probably will never give out the right signal. I ended up using the LGT harness and switching a few things so I could use and STi ecu. I am going to be using a Hall Effect speed sensor for VSS.
