Default problem with wrx starting - crank sensor

I have a 2002 wrx that has been modded as follows: new exhaust, up pipe, intake, chip. I had a check engine for about three years. car just came off lease and I had to clear the check engine so it could get smogged before I bought it. they cleared it, passed the smog, and dealer did a safety check before they sold it to me.

about two days later, wouldn't start in the morning. not like dead battery, but when you turned the key sounded like it was starting but engine would not catch. had it towed to firestone on a flatbed, and when it got there it started. they checked it out and said it was the crank sensor, which they replaced. started fine for a couple of days, then wouldn't start again. Back to Firestone, which said that when they replaced the crank sensor they were supposed to replace the cam sensor, but subaru had not sent it the first time. so they replaced it. Told me if it happened again to take it to the dealer and Firestone would refund my money.

Well, started for a couple of days, then same problem. This time had it towed to dealer (Big Valley in Los Angeles, I hate them), and when it got there is started again. They told me they got a check engine light after it started, and said it was the crank sensor. But, they cleared it and drove it and it kept starting. So, long story short, they tell me they don't know what it is, and can't tell as long as it is starting. I asked them how the hell are they ever supposed to find out if it always starts after towing, and the guy just looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about.

Anyone on here have any ideas. I am at the end of my rope on this, and have already used up all of my AAA tows!!

Faulty fuel pump, maybe? Weak battery? Partially plugged fuel filter? Get to the basics. Are you getting spark, fuel and air into the cylinder. If you have all three, the car will start.
