Default gas mileage

um, guys, any clue why my gas mileage is going down? when i just got my car, i was getting some 400km, with 20L in my tank when my empty light comes on (weird). now i'm only getting about 380 w/ 10L left (and now the empty light comes on w/ 10L left in the tank instead of 20L... weird)

has my monkey been messing around w/ the gas tank since i stopped feeding it guiness?

btw, i don't think my driving style has changed since breaking in the car.

I'm still only on my second tank of gas, but the emtpy light came on with 10l left. I had 487km on it at that point, but that was after a some "longer" (50+km) trips. Now I've just been driving it about 15km/day and I'm at 340km and used 3/4 of a tank.

Were you consistenly getting 400km with 20l remaining? It would make sense if that's what you got the previous fill, and didn't get quite a full tank (say the pump stopped 10l short). That would make you think there were 20l left even if there were only 10l. Then, assuming the next fill was complete, it would seem like you got really poor mileage.

Vince, you ride in my car often enough to know that i'm only as leadfooted as you are

allwheeldrift: i *was* consistently getting 400km. the funny (or weird, if you're me) is that my drop in mileage coincided with not using the car for 2 weeks, as well as the change in the oil light from 20L to 10L

My mileage has improved since I put in my Sparkos spark plug wires... but the the Air intake dropped it back to a bit less... It takes up to a week and a bit for me to use a tank now...

I started using 89... but eventually went down to 87, and then it seems that a tank can last longer...

I've tried both 92 and 94, but the engine just devourer the fuel without any improved performance...

Darren is the guy that told me that 87 is for 2.5RS... only Sandy can afford Supreme every tank

I actually don't know... but I recently notice that I less often have to go to gas stations... But I would fill up nowadays anytime when the price drops, so I can't really calculate for you... plus they look cool, even if they don't do any good, because i got them in Neon yellow

I see. Maybe you can see how much you get for just the first quarter of your tank next time.

Do they have red wire???

87 is all you need for NA, unless for some reason you keep getting knock. I can get 22mpg on average driving around - 3krpm shifting and a few5k rpm shifts through a few gears.

Even 26mpg hwy going shall we say over the limit enough.

it could be that the weather is getting colder. I notice that I get worst gas milage in the winter then I do in the summer

Actually, it would make more sense for one to get better gas mileage in the winter time. Colder denser air makes more power, and if your car is making more power you don't have to step on the throttle as much.

Default Perhaps but....

I *heard* that some gas companies stick more additives in their winter fuels to help them "burn" cleaner a-la MTBE. MTBE is nasty stuff -- it pollutes ground water, carcinogenic (sp?), and it eats through hoses and stuff in older cars; the fuel leaked out and the car caught on fire! Oh yeah, it hurts fuel economy too -- you get less milage per litre of gas.

The amount of MTBE in the fuel depends who you get your gas from. I know Chevron puts it in their fuels; there was a huge leak of MTBE out at the Chevron refinery up in Burnaby. Usually they list what additives they put in the fuel @ the gas pumps.

LaterZ!
Darren!!

yeah....using km/l, or l/km sounds more reasonable to me....can someone convert mpg for me? hehe

i do think 87, 89, 92 and 94 do make gas mileage diff....but that depends what kinda road u drive....i used to use about 12L/100km when i used 89 (not dare to use 87, haha) and about 10.5L/100km w/ 92....these days actually my gas mileage gets even better about 9.8 to 10L/100km (recent mod is only a Spoon low temp thermostat, way i drive is still the same, regarding to what Sandy says i think i have quite heavy foot, or else mileage on a Civic should be much better?? hehe...)

btw, how far each trip u drive (ie, 20km/trip compares to 5km/trip makes diff too) makes diff too....umm....

as for the spark plug wire....Joyce's car got extra about 10% gas mileage ALONG w/ the K&N air filter....

I such on gas milages, 00RS with no intake mod, just an aftermarket exhaust. All city driving, usually just downtown and Vancouver east side. Almost never go to Richmond or BBY. I run Chervon 87 on my car and my average is 12.5-13.5 L per 100 km. I would be lucky if I reach 400km between fill ups, usually 380km is all I can get from a 48-50L fill up. I admire you guys for your milages. Oh, one more thing that sucks for me is that my trip from home to work is barely 6-8 minutes driving and everytime I'll have to spent 5 minutes warming up my engine and waste lots of gas doing so. I also have this bad habit of firing up my car running idle and listening to music when I'm bored/upset! The upside is I am getting extremely low milages on my car. My milage is probably around 1200 - 1500km a month.

Okay I talked to my bro.. and MTBE does not eat gas lines and stuff.. MTBE is an octane booster.. Available in canada not in the states becuase it is banned.

Eric. Visit this site for conversions. I hope this is the right sight.

u are lucky man....i warm up every morning for 5 to 10 mins (i usually fire it up and then go back in for breakfast) and i only drive 2km to work....which is 3 mins or driving?

i got a turbo timer set at 2 min long time ago when the gas was cheap but now 1 min....hehe....

and when i wait for ppl i like to keep the engine running too....

these are all the reason it takes so much gas....hehe...

Ahem.. I only live like over 1 km from my work and hate walking to work since there are really strange UGLY hookers there.. I need a turbo timer!

Talking about hookers.. Last week a woman came into our shop with her hands around her chest.. Luckly the rest of the body was covered by the car she was behind.. I saw her and walk away quickly.. that was one ugly person! My boss kicked her out.
