Angry car got hit....what to do

Driving in the city today (S.F.) making a u turn and got hit. I was going about 25mph and spotted a parking space accross the street, so I slow down and signal left. (4 land road, 2 ea. direction) I'm in left lane. I veer a bit to the right of MY lane and start the turn. Almost 1/2 way through I hear screetching brakes and then POW! The back left side of the car gets hit and the car slides a little bit inthe direction of the turn. I went out to check the car after pulling over and my heart just sank. The left side of the bumper, where it curves is scratched to ***** and dented. Above the bumper, I guess 1/2 panel, two huge dents, plus the line where the bumper meets body is all messed up, crunched and stuff. Then above that, just to the left of the brakelight there is also a dent. A damn Pizza delivery boy hit me but wasn't too rude about it. I still don't understand how the hell he hit me like that. Anyway, whats the best course of action to get this fixed up. (good job of course) I'm in bay area so any one here let me know if u know a good body shop. Does anyone let the dealer fix this up?? Will they have better accessibility to parts, paint etc...?? Thanks for any help... 3 weeks old, 2500 miles... WHY??????????????????????

Well judging by your other posts (the one deleted and the scratch one), I say calm down a bit. I know it's precious to you, but as the saying goes - ***** happens.

1 month after I got mine I got some major hail damage... every panel on the car was dented. But things get fixed and you get over them.

you do know your going to have to front the insurance claim as you was impeding his right of way!. Weather in your lane or not. Unless you get hit directly from behind or the other party runs a junction your in the wrong.

As for repair work without looking at it I'd say the repair work will be a little over 4-5k. Maybe more. I have this problem myself with my car door. Where do I take it. Well I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. how long do you plan on keeping it.

Couple of pointers. Look at work they are already doing. Ask how many people work there and how many would be working on it. Its better to have only 1 or 2 working on each car. The will replace the rear quarter panel. Mainly because its virtually impossible to put a perfect crease back into a piece of twisted metal. Make sure they use PPG paint. (Almost all do) Find out what class of paint booth they use. Note that just because you find a body shop with very little work that they are bad. Some of the little ones put far more care into the work than bigger companies.

i disagree. He hit me kind of almost exactly at an angle so not on the side but not directly behind. I don't see any right of way for him to have. I don't know I guess we'll see soon enough.

I definitely feel for you on the accident. About a month ago, i got hit by some lady who cut into my lane and clipped my front end bad. Well one month later, I got the car back and it looks brand new, actually one kid at work said, "Yo, insurance gave you a new one" i was like it got fixed. I know it really sucks to have a brand new car in a accident, but this sounds so cliche "atleast you are ok, cars can be fixed, people can't!!! Just find a good body shop and try and relax. Good luck

Unhappy

LittleBlue,

Sorry to hear about your accident. I got hit on Wednsday. I was pretty pissed too, but just let the insurance compnay handle everything. It is easier to stay out of it than to get involved. Find a good bodyshop and let them talk to ths insurance too, they have a better chance of getting it fixed the way you want.

Cool

Just because a dealer has a body shop doesn't make them any better.

Any body shop can work on any car, getting parts is no different than if you went to buy them yourself. They will just order them from the dealer that is closest or does the best job of supplying them.

Here in PA, if you get hit in the back end it's NEVER your fault unless you were going in reverse!

My advice to finding a good body shop is ask around, you'll find someone who has had some work done. Check out their car where it was hit. If you can't tell, it's a good shop.

If your dealer doesn't have a body shop, they will probably be able to recommend a good one.

Umm, i dont know how bad the dent is or how bad it messed up the paint, but you might want to see if there is a Dent Doctor person around. www.dentdoctor.com has phone numbers and stuff. Here are the california areas:
2429 S. Stockton Street #5
Lodi, CA 95240
209-339-4000 (Since 1996)

Stockton
209-339-4000 (Since 1996)

They do paintless dent repair, and they can repair some pretty big dents (w/out having to replace the panels, which is nice to me), plus they're way cheaper than a body shop..
