Default How to: Install Alpine HU-Currently Have Sony

So, I currently have a Sony Xplod deck and will be replacing it with an Alpine 9856.

What will be necessary to install the Alpine deck? If it matters this will be into a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT.

all you need is the alpine harness that it should have come with. just splice into the existing harness or get a smart harness from CC, BB

circuit city no longer carries alpine(maybee give the local store a call and see if they have any alpine smart harnesses lay around( make sure you tell them color your alipine connector is)), OR just head over to bestbuy and get their harness / smart cable combo for the new alpines.

I just took the Alpine harness and connected it to a Scoshe (spelling a little off I think) Subaru harness. Isn't this the usual process?

Thanks. I'll be getting the deck from BB so I'll just ask for the smart harness.

DO NOT BUY FROM BB. Crutchfield sends you EVERYTHING you need to install it FREE no taxes.. no shipping. Mine was $199 total. Pics to come.

Yeah, but I have a friend that works at BB. My price was better.

With that said, I'm not sure on where to locate this smartharness. I've done searches and don't know where to purchase it. BB says they can order it, but is this the same item as everyone is getting at CC? I don't have a local CC so I can't really check it out to see if they still have any Alpine units laying around.

Thanks

Jared

a harness is a harness. best buy carries scosche nd metra, and i think that cc just carries scosche, dont quote me though. just buy the regular 90-8901 from best buy and wire it yourself... its 11 wires, mad simple. color to color

Scosche harness purple/black wire looks like just black, but the purple and purple/black are right next to each other. The ground (black) wire is next to the yellow power wire.

IIRC
