Angry Intake from Compass Motorsport

Who wants to call Gary this time to find out about the intake????
I'm still waiting it out. I think it will be worth it. Check out www.compassmotorsports.com. Look under projects for more details.

Im sure hes in the same position as he posted the other night. The problem is he is looking for a manufacturer as the first one backed out I believe.

Quote:
"The first person that I contacted wanted almost $250 just to build the main box. Most of you will know, that is almost as much as I wanted for the whole system"
So I think that is where the problem is currently. Hes still looking for someone to build the box for a reasonable price. I will give him a call maybe today to see if there is anything new so taht you arent the only PITA in the group of people waiting

Well the only things I have done to my car so far are.....5 Zigen springs, front and rear strut bars, toyo proxes on stock wheels, 18mm sway bar, clear side markers, clear corners, JDM tails, K&N drop in and silencer removed, and Kartboy short shifter. .....I dont take it to the track yet, because I don't feel that the performance matches the aggressive look..yet. I need some air!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I already started calculating air flow and box size and how much amterial i would need to do so. I would rather just buy the box premade intead of doign it myself that is why im waiting. If i need to do it myself i will though and it will be very similar with a few added (blind) enhancements as I dont know what hte inside of that box looks like as well as i have no dyno to test on I say wait it out for a week or so to see

Woulden't that box heat soak and heat up the cold air coming from the fender?

Thats why you open your hood scoop and the plenum now acts as an intercooler. i do think that plenum box would work better if it had some small fins to catch the cool air coming in from the hood scoop.

I think gary had discussed the issue of fins. I think he said that for the cost it would be to include them they werent worth it to do. Read recents posts in the private classified section on his item to see what he had to say. My thoughts are Air is flowing into the Throttle Body at 240cfm or so at WOT as long as where you are pulling it from is cool air it shouldnt have time to heat up that much.

You know, if you guys keep calling him all the time, that's less time he'll have to find a new manufacturer for the box. I'm sure he'll keep us updated, and I want to see what this thing can do as much as any of you, but all these posts asking "is it here yet, is it here yet, is it here yet?" is starting to irritate me; I can only guess how Gary feels about it. I'm sure he's glad that there is so much interest in his product, but he has better things to do than to constantly answer the phone. And don't jump on me, I'm going to let them use my GanzFlow CAI when they get finished and go to do a dyno shoot-out. Lt's just let him finish, and stop bumping the thread every 8 hours

So what that brings the total number of calls to Gary to what...three???? I dont think this is taking too much of his time away from finding a manufacturer. Anyways, we just want him to know how much the product is desired....plus...I bump the thread at least every two hours.

Oh, every two hours, sorry, my mistake Guess the only problem I really have is that when I see these threads up at the top, I get my hopes up, then I see it's just a bump, and nothing new from Gary Someday, his intake will be here, and i am looking forward to it, especially if it shows the gains he claims. And I'll hopefully be there at the dyno, so I can see it close up and personal

I'm pretty sure that a metal box won't act much like an intercooler (theres no way air can pass through). And like all metal objects under the hood, soon the box will begin to heat up and start heating the air. Maybe the box could be made of some less heat conducting material (CF, fibre glass, abs plastic) or maybe insulated with some kind of heatshield. Maybe some kind of N20 or ice water spray? Theres just something about cooling ambient air with ambient air that doesn't seem right.

I may be wrong, but I belive hes trying to make the plenum using CF. At leaset he had posts showing sheets of it and disscusiing changes to the plenum.

He also tossed around the idea of using kevlar too. Hes looking for amanufacturer so who knows at this point what will be included you can always wrap in heat shielding material which is what i will do if it doesnt come shielded.

I think the heat shild by the fender is what he was going to make out of CF, not the plenum box. The aluminum doesn't really heat soak to much, at least my GanzFlow stays pretty cool even after driving on a hot day. Of course, I did still put foil-backed insulated foam on it But with the air in it moving pretty quickly, it wan't be able to warm up much in the plenum, especially since not much of the air moving through the box will actually touch the box. Just my thoughts, and I won't even charge the going rate of 2 cents!
