I recently put an 04 sti tranny in my 2000 2.5RS which had an automatic in it before, so i wired everything up and the car runs great, then the ABS light comes on and the brakes lock up the more you use them, till it is impossible to drive the car? im lost, any help is appreciated

pull the abs fuse until you figure out what you messed up on...that or you have ATE Super Blue in your brake lines and you've never flushed it.

Did you swap in the STi axles? The different stator rings could be the problem. Personally, I'd junk the ABS system entirely, but just do as HndaTch suggests and pull the fuse for now.

i didn't even think about him swapping the axles....that's the problem right there if you did in fact swap in the STi axles

Well, ABS won't work when you swap AT for MT. You need to put your TCU back in the car if you removed it. I believe (if you're lucky) that just connecting the TCU will work. Try it out.

Well, did you swap out the rears? The stator ring (looks kind of like a gear) is what spins past the ABS sensor and induces the signal that tells the ABS computer what speed the wheel is turning at. I know the rings are different between the older cars and new ones. The ring is pressed on to the end of axle stub. If you've got GC fronts and GD rears, I believe that is your problem right there.

They didn't start putting the sensor ring onto the axle shaft until MY2000 Legacy's and MY2002 Impreza's. On the 1993-2001 Impreza's, the ABS sensor ring bolts right to the hub front and rear so it's independent of the axle itself.

You're right. Brain fart.

I'll jump on the AT vs. MT bandwagon.

yea the more i thought about it the more i realized that he was right, but then again if he chaged the rear hubs wouldn't it still have the same effect or is the sensor they use compatible with the RS's ABS control unit?

so just to be clear it was the absence of the TCU that was causing the problems correct?

I assume you did the rear hubs, axles and diff.? If so, it's probably the difference in the signals from front vs. rear. I think you'll have to go with the STi fronts as well to make everything match. Also, which rear ABS sensors did you use? RS or STi? How are the clearances?
