Someone I work with called this morning to say she was having car troubles and would be late. I asked her what was wrong and she said her car was shaking rather violently once she go onto the highway. I immediately started laughing, but then I realized that she was not in NESIC and was not trolling. Then I felt bad for laughing and explained the situation to her. I couldn't help but think of this thread (and the others similar).

A couple of months ago, I asked a friend of mine who occasionally works on dirt track oval late model cars if they bother balancing the wheels and tires when they are mounted. They do not.

Yes. At road course speeds, it's fast enough that it makes a difference. For autocross, I know several people that don't bother as the speeds are usually low enough to not make a difference. I'd put 60 MPH as the cutoff point on pavement. If you're not going above that, you can probably get away without balancing the wheels and tires.

Hmm. I've never balanced tires for road course with the theory that they're going to pick up OPR and garbage or slip and throw off the balance anyway and just dealt with the small vibrations I deal with.

I had some pretty dramatic wheel wobble today post- snow-hoonery. Then the temps dropped very quickly, so it all froze on the car. I got up to 50 on the highway and my wheel wobble was so bad that I thought my shifter was going to fall out of gear.

When I stopped to poke the holes, it was so hard that I almost hurt myself. Had to use something sharp to force it out.

And that's why you clean out your wheels and wheel wells after the hooning.

Same here, I've read this post too many times to count and yet I forget to clean out the snow from my wheels.

My forearms got a nice workout for the 15 minutes highway drive to Salem this morning

Left foot braking should get a sufficient amount of heat into the wheels to start melting the buildup

All I got from driving in the snow was a shower, a turn signal that stopped working, and an airbag light on after i went through a GIANT puddle.

It does.

NOTE: Not recommended with brake pads that don't work well at high temperature.
