Default 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB

Quote:
Everyone was off by one digit. Rumors have been swirling about the replacement for the 575M Maranello for months, and disguised prototype cars had been spotted on the streets surrounding the Ferrari factory. The future model, according to the automotive grapevine, would be called the 600 Imola to represent the 6.0-liter displacement of its V-12 engine and the Italian racetrack. Now, Ferrari has announced that the car actually will be called the 599GTB, as the company has chosen a literal interpretation of the V-12's displacement, which is 5999 cubic centimeters. The letters GTB, of course, have a long history in Ferrari's model lineup, in such noteworthy models as the 275GTB and the 365GTB4.

The 599GTB, Ferrari says, is its most powerful V-12-engined production car of all time. The V-12, which is also in the 612 Scaglietti two-plus-two coupe, is derived directly from the engine in the Enzo Ferrari supercar and will produce at least 620 hp at 7600 rpm for a power-to-weight ratio of only 5.7 pounds per horsepower. (That translates to an estimated curb weight of 3534 pounds.)

The 599GTB's chassis and body will, according to Ferrari, "adopt the latest evolution in the company's tried and tested all-aluminum construction." The exterior has been designed by Pininfarina, and the car is very clearly related to the 612 Scaglietti, although much better-looking.

The 599GTB will carry on Ferrari's proud tradition of front-engine, V-12, two-passenger berlinettas, picking up the torch from the outgoing 575M Maranello and its immediate predecessor, the 550 Maranello. Some 5700 examples of those cars were built in the past decade.

The new car will be officially unveiled on February 28th at the Geneva Motor Show. Be sure to return to automobilemag.com at that time for complete coverage.

Oh no... I see they are continuing with the Scag's headlight/grill design. Not liking it at all.

This is a gorgeous front end. The 599, not so much.

Anyone else think the 599 looks like a Ferrarized Corvette Z06?
Love the little extension behind the quarter window thou. Kindda like the old Dino.
The wheels and the front wheel arch vents have to go...

+1. First thing that came to mind when I saw that first pic was "I don't remember clicking on a Corvette thread". I think it's the lights and hood bulge...

Doesn't look good and doesn't look special IMO. Looks like one of those supra, rx7 spy drawings in japanese magazines. And it definitely doesn't look any better than viper, z06 and alike.

My top 3 best looking Ferraris of all times:
1- Testarossa (512TR)
2- F355
3- 288 GTO

I think it looks like it could be a good GT car. Not too bad looking though they could have wheels that look better with the lines IMO. Not bad overall.

You can't really compare the 430 to the 599 even in terms of the exterior design. The two cars are designed with two completely different purpose. The 430 continues the racing line of Ferraris whereas the 575 Maranello and this 599 GTB, are designed to be gentlemen cars. Of course they are going to give the 430 a more agressive design as opposed to the more posh look on the 599.

Yes the 575 was a gentlemen's car, this 599 isn't. It looks like a teenager disgned it then hacked it up with an ax. I think the 599 actually in some ways looks more sporty then the 430 but not classier in any means. The whole point of a gentlemen's car is to be classy and the 599 is not.

Totally agree with you on the

250 GT SWB California Spyder
365 GTB Daytona (Spyder)

But I would have to add the 1962 250 GTO

550 (575M) Maranello would have to fall into the top 5 for me.

Personally, the 430 is an improvement on the concept over the 360, but the new 599 is much less classier than the 550/575 Maranello.

This is sort of old news but I think the car looks great. It has some interesting details like the C pillar that isn't connected to the rear window. You can see it in the 1st picture of the yellow car drifting.
Italiaspeed has a few galleries of it at w/ the interior
http://www.italiaspeed.com/2006/cars...1/gallery.html
http://www.italiaspeed.com/2006/cars...2/gallery.html
http://www.italiaspeed.com/2006/cars...3/gallery.html
It has a lot of carbon fiber trim inside, which is interesting to me considering it is an all aluminum car.
I personally think the wheels look good, they've used the star shape before, just not with the cut outs like that.
I like the 275, Dino and most 250s but would throw in the 375+
Which is 4.9L of V12 fun.
