Alright...so I started the Tec II vs Unichip thread and it's gotten totally out of hand. Plus now I'm having problems w/my car after K&N drop in, hacking silencer, and ECU reset...it's got no power, is bogging and stuttering under accelleration
ugh---------------------------------------------------------------------- My question now is...I'm in Rochester, NY. When I get exhaust, uppipe, etc. and I want to get tuned engine management...where can I go. I'd go as far as TurboXS if I have to. Who has experience tuning some form of engine management WELL, FOR THE WRX, that is within a reasonable distance. (Besides Mark at TurboXS) Specific info including Shop names/locations/contact info, engine management system they tune, and pricing is what I'm looking for. Thank you very much, -Mike

Yeah, but he would have to have tec-ii for that correct?
Also, if you go autronic engine management, Trituning may be able to help get you where you want to be. The are closer to you than Mark is...but Autronic isnt quite like the UniChip..its closer to the Tec-ii, and actually is better in some ways. 3 outputs vs tec-ii's 1 output is a plus. suby |

doesn't that sound like WRXthis over in the non-tech thread.... learn something from his blown heads.... if your car is stuttering or not working right (especially since the majority doesn't have the problems with the same mods) there is a very GOOD likely hood something could be wrong with your car.... I mean REALLY wrong... Which engine management won't correct.... Don't pass go bud.... get it fixed first... then collect $200! Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProejctWRX.com |

So far:
Tec II @ $2000 plus flying Shiv here($600), plus payin him to tune it....($300), plus hotel I assume ($100), rental car??? That's a solution, but not for me. Way out of my budget I'm sure. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I appreciate your concern...but luckily my car is nowhere near that bad. It's been fine until I did the ECU reset this morning so I'm still hoping it will work itself out. I'm not as negligent as that guy. If my problems persist beyond tommorow I will get it fixed, but to begin with...poor performance and the engine stuttering a little is not in the same league as that guys issues. -Mike {Just spent over 2 hours cleaning the exterior of my Rex...phew. No more bugs, no more specks, scratches, anything } |

Probably the best bang for my buck $500 "mod" I've ever done. And I learned to appreciate Indian samosas too - long story. ![]() I'm thinking of organizing another trip out east at the behest of others sometime sooner or later too. This time based in the Boston area. If you're interested, PM me privately and I'll keep you informed of what happens. -Edwin |

We're an authorized Electromotive dealer, as well as LINK, and are locatedon LI. Not exactlyclose toRochester, butnot that far either. there really is no way to set pricing on installing this type of stuff, but our rates are very competitive.
As far as your car sputtering..somewhere you went wrong..the car should not, under any circumstances, buck after anymod. we have many WRX's running around with far greatermods and all run seamlessly. Lastly..Unichi vs. Tec2..no comarison to be made. tec blows it out of the water in terms of function, design, capability, andprice...so you first need to decide where you want to end up before you decide where to begin. Again you can`t compare a $2000+ full ecu replacement to a $700 interceptor.
![]() My cars runs great with the Unichip. It actually runs and idles smoother then the Shiv tuned TEC's I`ve seen. So you can`t say it blows it out of the water. For the price you can`t beat a TurboXS Unichip. IMHO. I say take a road trip to Maryland, get the Unichip and have Mark dyno it on their dynopack (load-based) dyno. Thats where I`m headed as soon as I get a new turbo and fuel system. I`m driving from New Hampshire so I'm even further then you. ![]() Bill |

I think that there are a couple people here in FL. that are going to try the plug-n-play possum link system (check out www.mrtrally.com). Price point is between Uni-Chip and TECII. The link is used heavily in the UK and in AUS. Unlike the unichip, you can program it yourself, and download other maps for it off the internet (It does come with a default map specially developed for the WRX though). Unlike the TECII, it is plug and play. It plugs into the factory ECU slot and your done (aside from the mapping). It's like the best of both worlds.

I just plan to drive to Maryland and get a Unichip...
I also know a really good Subaru mechanic in the area, who might be able to come up with something, just in case there is a more serious problem. |

The plug and play sounds the best to me as far as $ and cents work out so I ordered one last week from isrperformance.
I will let you guys know how it goes by posting later... 3c Bill |

Also, we are a dealer for the PossumLink (which is the plug and play design I stated above...it IS the LINK system, made by LINK Electrosystems)...I personally ran and tuned one on my STi conversion with stellar results.
We are on LI...alot closer than Florida, so give us a call and we can get you sorted. Bill - I don't doubt for a second you car idled smoother than some of Tec'ed cars. Just cause someone sells it, doesn't mean they got the tuning of it right...they are complex things to do, and require alot of fiddling. Also depends on what the rest of the mods were (injectors, etc.) All I ws stating is that in terms of fetures and performance, the TEC2 is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above a LINK or Unichip...but it is quite a bit more expensive, and harder to install and tune. They are also so vastly different, that the custom base for each is different. Most people here, even those that have it, don't need a Tec 2..they went with it becuase at the time, it was a viable solution to piggybacks. I think the Unichip is a great idea, except for the fact that one of two scenarios are only possible: 1. You drive to MD and get the car mapped and tuned by Mark...awesome, gives personalized tuning for YOUR car with YOUR mods. Downside: if you change something, you need to go back and have it remapped. 2. TurboXS sends you a premapped Unichip: upside...low downtime, and will no doubt run better than stock. Downside: each car is different, and the settings for one may not be ideal for another. This is the whole problme with chips to begin with. Also, what to do when you have modded your car further and maybe turboxs has yet to see a similarly modded car? Its those reasons that I love the LINK and Tec2's..For a local customer, i can do the install and mapping and give constant product support with future mods easily. or, either system allows you to dtalog the car, email me the results, and i can then retune and email the redone map back for download to the motherboard. I think the Unichip is an ideal solution for the guy who wants to do an initial run of mods, then be done with car, or at least be content for a long while. but our customers love to play constantly with new setups, so a user-programmable solution works best for most of them |
