Honda, here in the USA, also offered a turbo v-twin CX650cc motorcycle back in the 1980s.

He did? How do you know?

First turbo ever, sounds to me like the first turbo ever.

But in Japan there was the Honda City Turbo and the Honda Legend Turbo.

Ug, old news. Yes the RDX will be the first USDM turbo Honda automobile ever. Yes, the VTEC crowd is drooling about motor swaps. Yes it is AWD but it is SH-AWD which is nothing like Subaru AWD... it is still a passive system (although its a hell of a lot better than anything before it). Yes, it will be nicer than anything Subaru has ever produced and it will be reasonably priced for a luxury vehicle... Acura, after all is the best bang for the buck in the luxo business.

Can you tell I sell em

BTW, just had my first unequivical Tribeca over MDX customer. Picked it for his wife... he drives a Ceyanne, go figure Porche people picking up subies

wow, I'm not a honday fanboy (read ricer) or anything but a 92 accord was my first car and my brother drives it to this day, so I have a lot of respect for the company. If they came out with an aggresive awd turbo'd coupe/sedan I'd definitely go out for a test drive.

is what kessler89 meant to say. Plenty of turbo engines have been mass produced in the states. Now there's one that will actually last.

They've eliminated the torqueless weakness, which is definitely a good move.
Now if they can get a high-reving turbo i-vtec engine, then it will be a car enthusiast's wet-dream.

maybe the first honda motor with a turbo mass produced in the USA, but there are PLENTY of turbo motors that have been built in the USA.

3.8 turbo motor used in the GN
4g63 (the one that had crankwalk)
2.0 SVO mustang motor
etc etc etc

thinking back even as far as the 60s there was a covair that had a turbo on it...

carry on, and go honda, put that in the RSX and civic and you got a hot seller, heck, they could even put that in the older civic SI (the egg) and sell the hell out of 'em

Gorgeous interior... ugly as sin exterior. Reminds me of a next gen Hyundai Santa Fe mixed with a Toyota Rav4 mixed with the last gen Mitsubishi Outlander. Acura had really been on a role design wise.

I thought the whole purpose of the 'SH' was active lateral torque distribution, like the Mitsu AYC.

Are you saying that lock-up is passive?

Quote:
By monitoring driver input and driving conditions, the SH-AWD system determines the optimum front/rear and lateral (left/right) torque distribution. This information is then conveyed to the rear differential, where direct electro-magnetic clutches continuously vary the front-to-rear torque by up to 70% in either direction. Rear torque can also be apportioned between tire left and right rear tires by up to 100% on either side.

The SH-AWD system is composed of an ECU, sensors that detect steering angle, lateral g-force and other vehicle information, and a rear differential. The direct electromagnetic clutches inside the rear differential are able to maintain precise control over the multiplate clutches.
It is an active system
