Default What to watch out for when copying other maps for similar set ups?

For example, I have a lists of mods:

FMICw/nitrous spray
20-g Turbo
800 cc injectors
3 " downpipe
2.5" uppipe
GT-Spec Headers
Perrin Fuel Rails
Utec engine management
PPG gear set
among others..........

OK, I need a base map for 91 or 93 octane.......I copy a tuner map from a different car with a 20 g turbo and 800cc that has been tuned......will I be able to use this map for reference or a starting point for my own. My question is how robust or transferable are these maps.

I have a base map for stage four setup from turbo xs using 18 g and pinks, tmic etc...will the new tuned map for 2og and 800cc injector from another car improve my ride and get me started in the right direction more so than the stage four map from turboxs? ......

Any specialists close to OK...will travel to TX....KC

When you say "copy", are you saying that you've seen or experienced a map on a friends car that will tune for these mods and you want to take it to a tuner (specialists?) and have them copy the map?

If that's the case then yeah, you should be able to find a tuner to match a similar map for your car's characteristics. They will tune for your car, but you don't want to necessarily run the same exact map that you're copying.

If I'm not understanding your question correctly, then ??

No, he is saying a guy he knows has the same general setup but a few details are different, rather than starting from scratch working on his tune he'd rather use a map that is already in existence and known to work. He could do that and it would work better than a map designed for the wrong sized injectors, but I don't know how well it would work because many factors such as how well a downpipe flows to what the pressure drop and effectiveness of the front mount intercooler must be accoutned for. If you intend to use this map as a starting point and you are knowledgable in tuning you could certainly adjust it to work with your car and if you arent I am sure someone on here could help you out with it. I am not that person, sorry.

I have no experience with maps but one thing i'd consider would be elevation/climate.

I agree, temp and pressure are big in tuning and should definitely be considered.
