Are the spectator areas on the Rim of the World stage sections first-come-first-served, or can you buy tickets in advance? I don't see anything about it on their site.

I'm considering volunteering if there is anything I'm qualified to help with. I'm sure they can find something for me to do...

In the past, you could buy tickets in advance but were talking hundreds of spectators, not a real throng.

If you want to volunteer though, they will find something for you do or train you to do something. Its the best way to get the closest to the Rally.

Volunteering is the way to do it. Although you might end up freezing your ass off in the middle of nowhere at night. Bring warm clothes.

Last year I ended up working 4 stages: The two starts Saturday morning, and then the finish and start of the last two stages at the top of Del Sur. The top of Del Sur was awesome and also I got to drive up there when the course was pretty much closed.

I'm definitely going to try to volunteer. I have E-Mailed the only address I could find on the RotW homepage, a lady who was a volunteer contact for last year's event. Hopefully I'll hear good news back from her!

I decided to post my pics from the rally up in this thread, to keep it alive and to try and tempt more people to take part in another one. Here goes nothing...

Cask n Cleaver Restaurant, the staging area for the rally.

My car with Psydotek's car. Very photogenic couple if you ask me!

All the competitors' cars are finally here!

Finally on the road!

My nav and I roll into Borrego Springs... from the wrong direction! Woops!

More pics of the beautiful roads!

Apologies, Photobucket shrunk my pics... if anyone wants 640px versions, I have the entire collection (fifty-something) pictures in a zip file. A couple of them are original size, 3008x2000px!!

We'll see you there. We're going to run this one as well, since we've taken off the entire long weekend, and give ourselves time to drive back up after rally time.

its truely a multifaceted experience. the driving, the navigating, the comaraderie and just the pure adventure of it all!!! I think it's one the best in car activities that you can do. come on out on the next one, it'll be awesome as usual.

Thanks, about half of them are mine, the rest are my nav's shots. I have a Nikon D70. It has served me well so far, although I basically never take it out except for motorsports events like this one.

For those of us with old computers and dial-up SMALL photos are great.

Look forward to seeing you! No long w/e for us this time ... my driver has to work May 1st - she lives in Tahoes - and I usually go dance the sun up on May Day! http://www.berkeley-morris.org/

That would be super sweet......

I dunno what car we'd be in though....it looks like my team has 4 viable options. I'll probably sit Nav in a crazy loud 3-series...
