Glad he was ok, that could have ended very badly. Perhaps he has a future as a stuntman?

on second look, i wonder at what point he realized he lost his skis. on one hand, they are relatively heavy and i feel like you would immediately notice, but he kept on rotating and spinning like he was trying to finish it.

Well, if he stopped spinning im thinking he would have landed on his head. Talk about adding insult to injury. Im curious when he did realize he was ****ed.

they rock skis that are like 130s or 140s that are really light and thin. not normal skis. i couldn't really say at what point he could tell his skis were gone (depends on the skier... and they are not much of skiers really). personally, i can usually tell prior to takeoff that i am totally and completely effed.

finishing the rotation is the smartest thing to do because it means you can crumple and not fall on your head (or worse, get whiplash landing sideways). he did that fall picture perfect

i still laugh at him

i beg to differ. a lot.

its the angle of the slope plus the crumple that help. plus, ski boots help reinforce the ankle joints a bit.

their is a lot of talk in this thread about the same stuff, plus another crazy video and picture: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=929820

that being said, snow really isn't all that soft from significant heights. especially snow that is not fresh. its all about forward momentum and angle of the landing.

to quote myself snow "compresses into suck"

if the angle of the slope and landing is such a big factor, wouldn't he need the skis on to not "crumple" his legs?
