Default Clutch problem or tuning problem?

i have an 04 wrx with about 280wtq and a bit over 30k miles. a couple of months ago, i realized that on the highway, when i went WOT, the engine would shoot up a couple thousand rpm, the boost would shoot up, then the engine would settle down and boost would waver.

at the time, i thought that this was a tuning problem- b/c i have an ecutek tune w/ mbc for boost control and it had just gotten cold out... but now, i think that it's the clutch. it used to only happen in 5th gear, but it has happened in 3rd and 4th. maybe even 2nd gear.

initially, i didn't think that it was the clutch b/c i never smelled burning clutch when this happened, but now, i dunno.

help!

With an MT, anytime the RPMs increase rapidly when in gear without a corresponding increase in speed, it means something is slipping. Most likely the clutch, unless one of the diffs is bad.

so, even though there's no burning smell, it's possibly the clutch?
