Default Check Engine Light

Well, I've finally seen the dreaded CEL. Must admit to running the GT Wagon to 112mph for about 5 miles on a light traffic night last week on South Bound I-5. Won't go into the reasons why at this point. The car was running flawlessly when I noticed the CEL and immediately slowed down and checked everything under the hood a couple of miles later at a fuel stop. Everything was OK, with no overheating or low oil level, coolant, etc. I did an ECU reset that night at my destination and have had no more warnings over the 200 mi home or 200 more since. Any ideas?

Car has 95K-miles on it, running Mobil1 and NGK plugs. Think I may have just overheated the CAT Converter or something running so hard?

For the last two years, I'd had a problem where fast highway running on a cooler night (early fall) would cause the CEL light to come on after 5-10 miles. Code always read EGR; wouldn't happen but two-three times a year. Finally I replaced the EGR solenoid ($170 or so) and it hasn't happened since. I think I had 70k miles when it started and ~100k miles when I replaced the solenoid. Have a friendly dealer read the code and see what it says.

Thanks rrubel, If it recurs I'll live with the CEL til I can get the codes out of it. Just couldn't stand running a couple hundred miles home with that light telling me something was wrong!

Default HOW TO GET RID OF CEL

I got home late around 8pm...popped my hood ...took off the neg. connector to my battery... went inside ...ate dinner...watched TV...slept...woke up...did my thang...went back outside ...connected the neg. connector back to the battery...started my car...went back inside...ate breakfast...went back outside and saw that the engine temp was normal ... turned the engine off ... kissed my wife...closed the garage...started the car back up and went to work!!!

If that wasn't the right way...I don't care...all I know is it worked!!!

Well, that's MOSTLY the correct way. I think you forgot to brush your teeth, twice. That's a sure invitation for the CEL to come again soon.
