Default Fuel filter for 04'+ STi, are they are replacement item?

I know it is inside the fuel tank next the fuel pump, the parts guy at the dealer told me Subaru don't even sell the filter separately. So is that mean it is a life time, don't need to be replace item?

What confused me is, Subaru recommend replacing the fuel filter on 04'+ STi at 60k miles

http://www.subaru.com/owners/schedul...2004myfed.html

Does that mean we have to buy the whole fuel pump assembly if the filter is not available separately? It doesn't make much sense.

Thank you in advance

The fuel filter is located in the tank and is part of the fuel pump.

I know that as I said in my question

My question is, is it a replacable, regular maintance item?

Thank you for your input regardless

Replacement interval is 90K miles. I keep hoping that Subaru will come out with a replacement filter, but it has not happened yet. There is a DIY for using the supra filter either on ravenblade's site or on scoobymods. I've also been kicking around the idea of just installing a big aftermarket inline filter, but I keep going back and forth on that one.

Is this something subaru did on only the STIs? I know the first thing I noticed on the WRX is it had the same exact fuel filter as my rs, right under the hood on the right side. Makes changing the filter in under 5 minutes possible.

And does anyone know why they changed it?

So if Subaru doesn't offer a replacement filter, does that mean it never needs to be replace?

But Subaru recommend us to replace it at 60k miles

All I know is all 04'+ STi don't have a fuel filter under the hood on the right side like a 02'~03' WRX, it is in the fuel tank next to the fuel pump.

I don't know if Subaru did the same change on 04'+ WRX and RS........

The fuel filter is not under the bonnet on my '05 WRX.
According to the official Subaru maintenance schedule (HERE), it should be replaced at 60k miles. That schedule is for all 2005 vehicles so it should apply to the WRX and STi.

Yes, the question is in order to change the fuel filter, do we have to buy and replace the whole fuel pump assembly?

I was just verifying that it was changed on the WRX as well as the STi as this seemed to be uncertain to some.

Are you talking about the brake booster?
