Default Modding brand new car?

Hey everyone,

Im getting a 2013 wrx soon and im wondering wether or not to modify it right away. from what ive felt, i wish to eventually make around 340-360hp at the wheels and put a 50 nitrous shot for getting up steep snowy hills (and because my inner ricer has wanted it since fast and furious came out). i was also gonna get a set of sway bars and the perrin short shifter adapter.

anyways heres my question; should i space the modifications out and tune accordingly? and if so, how (i.e. n what order)? (the cumulative cost for this will be higher than all at once). should i finish paying the car before touching it? will this power run safely and reliably on stock internals?

This is my first thread btw, so im very sorry if you feel like im just asking stupid, impossible to answer questions. i appreciate and am open to any and all suggestions.

To mod or not, when, and how is all up to you and no one else. We don't know your budget, if you can afford to do everything at once, or if you want to keep your warranty. Yes, modding a new car can deny your warranty.

50 shot for going up steep and snowy hills? Stop right there.

Also, read UNABOMBERS MANIFESTO that is stickied at the top of this forum, and fill out your profile.

I had my car jacked up as soon as i got it home. did some little things and exhaust right away. stage one map after i hit 1k miles, DP and tune a couple thousand later. Do what makes you happy if you dont mind screwing your warranty up

This. When I got my car I fully intended to make more power right away. I ended up driving it stock for 6 months and since then almost all my mods are handling related (tires, springs, struts, etc.) and a kartboy short throw. I'm almost happy with the handling now so power mods are next.

Morale of the story is drive the car as is for at least a few months. You may find your money better spent on making the car better in the turns rather than in a straight line.

Because a 50 shot of nitrous oxide is EXACTLY what you need to get up a steep, snowy hill.

And because everything you see in a movie is real.

I drove to the Subaru dealership with a flatbet full of rockets, machine guns, and like tank treads and stuff. Then just like Vin Diesel in XXX I said (with great athority) "I want all of this" <expansive gesture at table> "In here" <point at my car and grimace slightly>

They did not accomodate my needs.

Advice?

I use to have 05 wrx that was stage 2 with 233 hp and 255 tq and I was happy with the way it was. Now I have a 13 wrx and is faster than my 05 so I have been driving in stock since I got it and loving the power it has. I will probably do a axle back exhaust and intake just for sound. I agree with drive it and enjoy it.

50 shot of NOS for steep snowy hills? Then you'd really fit the Subby stereotype here in Colorado. Have fun doing unintentional 360s.

Man, all I need is a 50 shot of nos to get up a snowy hill? I've been so stupid buying snow tires all these years.

You should add a supercharger, a 200 shot of NOS, AND a turbo from a WW2 P-38 Lightning.

My buddy did that in an old video game, and the car was really fast. Then his TV blew up.

So, you should get the Gold extended warranty.

I bought my hatch new and decided it made sense to do every mod I wanted that didn't require a tune first that way I could retain my warranty as long as possible.

Stick with your warranty first. Better safe than sorry. But then again, there's always the bad luck of cars breaking down right when the warranty is over.

If you start modifying during the warranty period, then you are willing to effectively become 'self-insured' with respect to those items that may not, or would not, be covered [under warranty] as a result [of those modifications].

I recommend paying off the car first. Just-in-case you run into some kind of unforseen financial problem, if the car isn't paid and you've put several modifications into it, you lose both. Yes, an extreme example, but it can and does happen.

Get to learn your car first so you can make an informed decision about what you'd like it to do better. When you decide it's time for, let's say, it to corner better, then you can start researching suspension and tires to see what will accommodate your needs.

If there is something you want for aesthetic reasons then go for it.

Torqued Performance Stage 2. 7-8k Miles at the moment. Car is a little over a year old and daily driven. 'Nuff said.

Thank you all very much for your input. i will definitely drive the car a little before knowing exactly what i want to do with it. and in case you were wondering; yes, the nitrous deal was a satire. i just heard some dude saying that he needed it to go up hills and i thought it was funny. sorry if it offended you.
