Default Scanning an obd1 JDM ecu?

Posted this over at rs25 but didn't get any reply so thought I would try it here.

What is it gonna take to communicate with an obd1 jdm ecu? Will any scan tool retreive/clear codes or am I going to be totally hosed if I need to scan it and see what is going on? I am not worried about flashes, tuning, etc but just seeing what is happening and being able to check and clear cel's.

Please let me know what can be done about this situation as this is hopefully the final hold up before I order my engine (v2 sti).

If you have an obdI harness there should be some little connectors under the driver's side of the dash. Plug them together and the CEL will start to flash. The order of flashes and pauses will tell you the trouble code.

its a normal OBD1 setup like any USDM. if u google serach surreal mirage or somthing like that theres a website with all the codes and how to check/clear/reset ecu. its really simple, jdm codes are same as usdm.

Should be the same/similar as the legacy codes.

VRG3 (Vikash's) scan tool may even work

OBD2 is a standardized comunication protocol. There are standards, as well as proprietary pins.

I would think a scanner is a scanner and should be able to read OBD2, regardless of where it was sold.
