Default 50% methanol injection into JDM engine

I was perusing the noob stickys and came across one on methanol injection. It says that it raises your effective octane to 100+ numbers. I'm wondering, since the JDM engine is tuned on 98RON but it has tuned itself down to my ghetto 91 PON, would methanol injection allow it to crank up the timing on its own (ie would I get gains on the stock JDM chip alone without a tune)?

I know some Galant guys running the snow performance kit with great success. Not sure what the mix is but it automatically adjusts depending on boost. Pretty sweet set up.

Why won't you people learn what octane ratings are?!?!!?

+/- 2 points
RON MON PON
90 83 86.6
92 85 88.5
95 87 91
96 88 92
98 90 94
100 91.5 95.8
105 95 100
110 99 104.5

Seems like you're trying to use a bazooka to squash a fly.

If you learned what octane numbers were you'd know it's not just a simple conversion. PON is an average of RON and MON, so yes if your gas has a 98 RON rating and 90 MON rating you'll get a 94 PON rating, but just because it has 94 PON doesn't mean it has 98 RON and 90 MON.

But now that you're done feeling superior, you can maybe add something constructive? Even if 50/50 is too high and a 25/75 or other mixture using less alcohol is better, the question remains the same.

From what I understand the ECU will learn to love yer' lead foot and will increase timing, until it detects knock, then it will retard timing. I dont think you can cause any harm by going with an injection set up.
Just a FYI, my EJ20G(stock) with a DTEC knock sensor, will rarely get knock. Im willing to bet that your engine needs better fuel than mine during WOT.
If you do it(meth kit), let me know how it goes.
Thanks
Rick
