Lightbulb Yikes! May 20 date conflict for KD7000!

So I just got an invite from my aunt, who is throwing a birthday party for my grandmother. She'll be 90. It's on May 20th- same day as the WBM.

Do I go to the party? It's in Hartford at 2:00 pm.

You don't have a "visit her some day before the WBM and bring her a gift and card and apologize for not being able to make it to her party, then go to WBM" option, so I chose one of the WILD AND ZANY ones.

1.5 hours at "the Pace." No problem. Just leave the WBM a little early and get to the party a little late. We'll understand.

Lightbulb

Perhaps we could set up a satellite up-link from the mosh pit @ WBM so your Grandmother can see you in action with the suicide girls

Perhaps not such a good idea if you wnat to celebrate her 91st...

I voted go to her party.

1. There will be another WBM.

2. Living far away from my grandparents and missing this sort of stuff I have first hand experience with how disappointed a 90 yr old can be. It's amazing how much life and happiness a 90 yr can seem to regain when they see their grandkids.

I'm obviously inclined to do family things first- as much as I love all you bastards, I just might love my grandmother more. But the WBM was so tremendous last year, that I'll feel quite sad if I didn't make it this year.

Additionally, I'm not sure there is really enough time for me to go to both. At least, not if I'm volunteering (read: parking cars for hours upon hours) again. Or maybe I'll just figure out a way. Being a little late to the birthday party wouldn't be too bad...

Plus, it's not just me- I'd want my family to come along as well.

Grrrr......

Seriously, as much as you were a big help last year, feel free to come early, leave early, and enjoy time with grand-mom May 20th. Do not feel obliged to work this year.

But, next year you'll just have to work two shifts

My grandmother is about 93. She still remembers when my "thank you" card was late thanks to the post office in like 1987. I got so much family pressure on that one that I sent another one. They both arrived on the same day. She still remembers when they were razing the whole area which used to be 5 towns and is now Quabin resevoir. Not remember? I wouldn't count on that.

No us......you can tell everyone that you DID go to WBM and everyone will think you did go.

Go to the party. You're going to feel like a real ass if you go to the WBM and something happens were you don't get to see your grandma again.

We'll be there in 2007, too.

Sorry for the brass response, this is the best sentimentalism that my shallow self can supply.

Maybe we could hold the WBM in or around Hartford this year ?
Are there any members working for Pratt & Whitney Jet Engines who could possibly make some space available ?

While holding the meet in Hartford would put a large burden on folks living in Northern VT, NH and Maine it could also make it much easier for some of those silly "Tri-state" NJ-NY-PA folks to check us out, and it would certainly simplify Brian's choices.

FWIW, I voted that KD7000 should go to his grandmother's party as she might not be alive all that much longer.

My grandmother's 90th is the weekend of Black River Stages, one of the 3 rallies I could possibly run this year - and I'm skipping it in favor of heading to FL to see my grandmother and family. A rally. I'm skipping DRIVING in a rally for a birthday party. Not just looking at cars, driving one full out on gravel roads. Skipping it. For a birthday party. If you go to the meet instead you are a horrible grandson!

(can you tell I haven't gotten over making this decision yet?)
