Default 98rs engine swap

I am planning on getting a 98rs and putting a sti shortblock and 2.5 heads on would I have to replace all the electronics, wiring and censors or could I just put a ECU on there and it would work?

The heads will work fine and you can use the sensors from the original RS motor, you won't have to change wiring OR the ECU. It would be best to get the STI Oil Pump and Water Pump, you should use the STI Head Gaskets as well. The 98 ECU will work but it may throw a CEL because it is not used to running a motor with such low compression.

I'm guessing you are going to boost the engine, if so it would be wise to change the valve springs. I would personally use some aftermarket EM but that is up to you.

If you don't boost the engine you will have possibly the weakest Subaru engine since the 360.

So boost it, get some EM, find me at a racetrack and proceed to kick my ***.

P.S. Take pictures, post em and share the joy.

ECU wont throw a CEL, your 98 RS is maf based right? that means it will calculate volumetric effeciency based on o2 sensor and maf signal, it will just be slower than crap.....unless of course you boost it. if you do boost it, do yourself a favor and get better valvesprings.
