Default Ap Vs PDX maps

I was wondering is it possible to use the accessport stage2 maps then get a tune from pdx because I want to be able to switch back to stock some times or would just going to pdx save money and time

PDX should be able to create a map and load it onto your AP...

I just got my PDX maps today.. . and feels 10X smoother so far.. . only drove 20 miles or so. Anyway. . go to PDX or order their maps. Just tell tham you want a "stock style" realtime map.
They make a Base. .which has to flashed to run their realtime maps over. . you cannot run Cobb realtime maps. They will make you whatever maps you want. I got 7 total. Check them out.

Just got mine via email today, they sent the same amount to me as well. They did mention that I should switch to one step colder spark plugs, did they tell you this too? What would happen if I didn't switch?

JamesR : In every email to Tim B. . I mentioned the 1 colder plugs and never said anything ???? From my experience with my 87GN. . Im running a CR-43TS over the reg R-44TS. C=copper. It pretty much eliminated my det around 5000RPM when I was once seeing some. . idles smoother too.
I will email TimB and ask. . plugs hard to change BTW? Whats your thoughts on the plugs?

Not sure on the plug issue, I would rather not change them if I didn't have to, I'm new to all of this. I won't use the PDX maps yet until I get a definite answer. Tim recommended the BKR7EIX (NGK iridium) or the BCPR7ES (copper).
He said he highly recommends these while running the maps he sent. I looked at a DIY on how to change these and it looks like a PITA. I also read somewhere that you should go one step colder if you are increasing your HP 75-100 over stock HP, not sure if this applies to me.

Id rather not mess with them either. I know enough to leave alone type thing. . Id hate to F something up. . crossthread etc. Ill wait and see and do some more reading. Sounds to me they should perform better over the stock (we are running way over stock levels of boost).

This is exactly what Tim B wrote in his email

"I do highly recommend that you change your sparks plugs to versions that are one step colder. A properly gapped, colder plug will allow much better performance through detonation resistance<SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">

I really want to run the PDX maps but I really don't want to blow anything up, do you think it would be safe to do with the stock plugs?

^^Yeah, I'm pretty confident that these guys know what they're doing. I haven't logged any of my runs yet but I have done it in the past with the tari software that he sent. I'll probably load the maps and send a log to him so he can tell me if anything needs tweaking.

Its 19* and I just went for a blast.. slowly getting on it. . .WOW!!!! there is an xtra powerband now and wakes right up app. 4000RPM now very different then the Cobb OTS map. . I really wasnt looking.(maybe a AVCS tweak) def smoother. Cold start was nice and smooth and seemed quieter over all. It idles better and more lively.

Out of topic here, how long does it take them to e-mail you back with the maps?

You mean to tell me that PDX is distributing Tari software for logging purposes. Now that's funny! Well, at least it's getting its uses. Gota love the free software community... these companies should at least maybe donate something to the core people that work on these projects if they are willing to freely distribute the software to benefit themselves. It would be the least they could do. Not saying there's anything wrong with them using this way, but I'm sure a little gratitude would be welcome by those individuals involved.

They didn't actually send me software, they just sent me a link, which I knew about before but never used until now.

If PDX tells you to run 1 step colder plugs I would. It doesn't sound like it's required, but for your engines safety I would. You have to replace your plugs eventually anyways, so the questions is why not change them now.

PDX has been recommending TARI since the first revision. And they send the link, not the software. They are supporting the project well by giving credibility.

Good to hear... but even if they sent the software it's not like that would be illegal... since it's free.

It's good to finally see "major" players in the community push the use of these tools you guys have been working so hard on.

BTW, the above posts weren't meant to be negative in any way if that's how you read them.

(I can't wait for the future to come where we can have video forums... I'm sure it'll be easier to judge someone's attitude from that kind of visual aid.)

Good question but why do you want to switch to stock mode?
