Question Strange boostin'

I need to check with my homies out there before I start with the parts. Here it is:

'02 WRX with 43k miles, AP, stage 2, 93 oct, catless UP and TBE, k&n panel filter with snorkelectomy, samco hoses and a rythmical nasty and anoying hesitation. Above 3000 rpms with more than 75% open throttle I'll hit 13.5 psi and then it drops to 12.5 psi, jumps to 13.5, drops to 12.5 with the same frequency and only on full, or almost full throttle. It's smooth and strong if I don't hit the gas pedal more than 65%. The rythmical variation in boost doesn't change in intesity, or frequency, seems like it just sets in and unless I let the gas pedal go, I'm dancing. If I get the car above 4000 rpm with 65% throttle, the car is smooth to 7500, or fuel cut off, plenty of power, but only as much as you can get from that much throttle.

The car starts as easy as ever, no stumbling, hesitation, rough idle, easy, smooth and plenty of acceleration, until I drop the hammer and the dance starts.

I don't have a vac leak, cause I'm hitting boost pretty good and the car accelerates easily, not sparkies, starts and runs good, not MAF, no stumble, no rough idle, not throttle body, its clean and moves freely, in fact, I don't even hear the wisttle from build up.

I'm thinking its the boost controller... how do I test it beyond hearing the clicking when 12V are applied?

Have you homies had a similar problem? If you have, what solved it? Should I check something else?

Write up homies.

Question Tried and will continue

Well, using the AP, I've reset the ECU a couple of times, no changes. Looked at the wastegate and although it moves freely, when the car's cooled down, the wastegate is opening, or part closing, because it's getting that kinda signal from the boost controller. Tested straight vac from intake to waste gate actuator, get 8 psi pretty consistently... Don't know man? Gotta be the controller, no?

Thanks for the response dvang.

simplebirdy,

What happened? Did something get into the tubine? break a bearing? What other symptoms did you experience? Was it sucking in coolant? How about oil?

Keep the answers coming!!

its the turbo seals

you can find used turbo's form 100-200 and rebuild kits are 100 so its better to look for the used turbo with low miles.

or you can upgrade but that costs a lot more

Question Turbo options

How about Deadbolt's rebuilt, did you try that option? They have this service where you buy a rebuilt stock turbo and as soon as you return the core, you get credited. I think w/o turbo it's 400, after the core return the cost is in the 200 range.
